Hi

I think my browsers have been hijacked. I use firefox but noticed a few days ago it was starting to re-direct me to unwanted sites, now it will not load at all. I am using IE as a back up and have just managed to get here for help (although IE also redirects me, unless I navigate via my favourites)

I run Mcafee security suite and have also tried a scan with...

Spybot S&D, Ad aware SE, etrust pest patrol and AVG anti-spyware.

Would appreciate any help as it's driving me nuts!

Thanks, HJT log below

Your log seems to be clean !

Lets run another scan to make sure :

Download SmitfraudFix© by S!Ri to your Desktop.
Extract all the files to your Desktop
A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you
When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed
Open the rapport.txt file

Copy and Paste the contents of the rapport.txt file here

IMPORTANT: DO NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Hi

Not sure if any of this will help but I've noticed that on IE the re-direct only occurs on sites that I've previously visited. If I navigate via a search engine I don't normally use (e.g. Altavista) and clink on a link to a site I've never visited then the re-direct doesn't happen (hope that makes sense!) Also I've noticed the re-direct is usually to a site called http://www.getedsa.com (although it does sometimes re-direct elsewhere to!). Firefox is still stuffed and will not load at all.

Thanks again.

Go to Start, Control Panel
Select Network and Internet Connections or Network Connections, depending on what view you are using
Right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says :
Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks. That option might not be avaiable on some systems

Go to Start, Run type cmd and hit OK
At the prompt type :

ipconfig /flushdns (that space between g and / is needed) then hit enter
Type exit hit enter

Reboot

Let me know if it still redirects you!! also how your system is running !

Hi,

Ok done that. Unfortunately the re-direct is still happening (although it does seem to have speeded things up, the re-direct is almost instant!!

This line :

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F88C0678-109C-4048-B19A-C4FB72B0341A}: NameServer = 212.139.132.6 212.139.132.7

That is your Tiscali internet, its OK.

Download ComboFix to your Desktop

Reboot to Safe mode
Restart your computer and begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard just before Windows starts to load
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear.
Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter

Make sure you have Disconnected from the Internet !

Double click on combofix.exe
Follow the prompts

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall

When finished, it will produce a log for you

Reboot to Normal Mode

Post a fresh HijackThis log along with the ComboFix log here
(You may need to use several replies as the logs may be cut off)

Thank you !

Sorry for the delay getting back to you, I was away over the weekend. I have run combofix today, log below + a new HJT log.

Just to let you know when I rebooted back into normal mode after the combfix run, I had a blue screen and physical memory dump. It said BAD_POOL_CALLER at the top of the blue screen and the follwing info was in the report that windows asked to send back to Microsoft.

Ok, I assume the redirect is still happening ??

Go to Try F-Secure BlackLight
Choose I ACCEPT then click Download Blacklight Beta graphical user interface version to download Blacklight to your Desktop
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement
Click Scan then click Next
You'll see a list of all items found
There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx stand for numbers).
Copy and Paste this log in your next reply.
Do Not choose the rename option yet!
I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as wbemtest.exe

Thats weird (and good!) it's stopped re-directing now.

Should I still go ahead with the F-secure blacklight thing?

I still can't get firefox to work though?
