Unread postby rbeltr1 » June 17th, 2005, 1:50 am

Hi, I'm very thankful I found this site. It looks like there is a ton of great info here and I'm somewhat overwelmed. I hope to not be a problem child, but any help I could recieve would be greatly appreciated. So where do I begin. My PC is running extremely slow. I'm sure there are several things wrong, but I'm not sure exactly what. For starters my task manager has be disabled. I found the following command to enter into Start/Run and it seems to work until I restart my PC. Here is a HiJackThis log. Again, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. RB

Hi and welcome to the MalwareRemoval Forum,

You have a few uninvited "guests" that might be causeing this problem. Let's get rid of them and see how you system handles then?
======

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System] C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [InnoSetupRegFile.0000000001] "C:\WINDOWS\is-E5M1S.exe" /REG
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SPOOLSV32] C:\WINDOWS\System32\SPOOLSV32.EXE

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============
Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...
C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernels32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\is-E5M1S.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SPOOLSV32.EXE

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".
===============

Reboot and post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Thank you for your help ...

Steve, Thank you very much for you help, I greatly appreciate your assistance. Posted below is a new HiJackThis log. I wasn't able to find the following things from you list of instructions, but was able to get everything else:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [InnoSetupRegFile.0000000001] "C:\WINDOWS\is-E5M1S.exe" /REG

The following two files were not present.
C:\WINDOWS\is-E5M1S.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SPOOLSV32.EXE (--- There was a SPOOLSV.EXE)

Here's the HijackThis log:

You did a good job.

I don't see any malware running in the system. It's OK if you couldn't find those files, we must have got them.

How is the computer working now?

What a big difference. The PC is running so much better now. There for a while whenever you were trying to do something it had to stop and think for what seemed like eternity but was probably about 20 - 30 seconds. Thanks very much for you help. Would you have any recommendations regarding two things:
1. The issue about the Task manager being disable each time I reboot. And,

2. I can't get to Google. Whenever I go to google, the page seems to be hijacked. It looks like a regular page, however Google is spelled "Googl" and when I do a search it comes back with the search results in a new window and the results are all pretty much advertisement and not results I would expect.

If you can't help with these two issues no big deal. I greatly appreciate you helping me with my biggest problem (As they say the first step in recovery is admitting you have problems ... and I know I have many.)

Thanks again!!!

To be honest with you I can't see in the log why it is going got Goog and not Google. Nor can I see why the TaskManager isn't working properly.

Hi

Let's see if we can't get that to work correctly .

===

First of all we are going to flush you DNS servers.

Got to Start>>>>Programs>>>>Accessories>>>Command Prompt.

type in the prompt ipconfig -flushdns, just like that with the space between the g and -.

Hit enter and when it says complete exit that window.
====================================

Now go to http://www.silentrunners.org, download the .zip file and unzip it and run the program. The program will give you a log that I want you to post in this thread.

Steve, Thanks for your continued help. I hope this log leads you to something that will help to solve the problems. I do see within this log several HiJack and Infection messages. While I'm sure those are bad, I'm glad this program can help us (you) pinpoint these problems. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.
