Is the Icon in the system tray a Yellow Triangle?

If so, this is the same as my problem that needs solving :/

Hi dbryj,

Welcome to the MalWare Removal forums! I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
  2. Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  3. Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly

Hi dbryj,

I will need you to disable programs that can interfer with removal of malware:

Ewido
Right click icon in bottom right corner of screen and choose exit and when prompted click yes.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Next:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) fom Here to your Desktop.

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Open the Misc tool section button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save list button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply. Note: please uncheck word wrap under format in notepad

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Please post in next reply:
rapport.txt

Hi dbryj,

Thanks for posting logs.
SmitFraudFix has just been updated I just found out. Please delete this one. Go the the SmitFraudFix folder and right click and choose delete.
I will need you to repeat instructions.

ReDownload SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) fom Here to your Desktop.

Please post rapport.txt in next reply.

Hi dbryj,

Thanks for posting logs. I need you to read below and we will fininsh the removal of the malware.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These entries correspond to programs that are either malware, installs malware, or is bundled with malware.
These Programs are know to be assoicated with Trojan.Zlob family. Hijacks startpage, showing false alerts that your computer is infected and installs rogue security programs. http://research.sunbelt-software.com/th ... atid=44478 .

Internet Explorer Security Plugin 2006
Power Scan
Public Messenger ver 2.03

We will need to uninstall these Please read thru first.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Viewpoint components are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting "Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager" -- the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself.

Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
Viewpoint Media Player

-------------------------------------------------------------

I see you are using Wild Tangent. It is not malware, but is sometimes thought to bring malware along. Unless you are an extremely avid games player, I recommend you fix this...

Wild Tangent is a video game software company specializing in online games. It has even made a partnership with AOL to include itself as part of the AOL Instant Messenger for their AIM games section. The WildTangent Web Driver is their technology that allows you to play 3D games over the Internet. Although it’s not technically considered spyware, it does have built in components to update itself and gather information about the computer system including
  1. Operating System Version
  2. CPU Type and Speed
  3. Memory Amount
Video Card type and Driver Version
  4. Sound Card type and Driver Version
  5. DirectX Version
Location that the Web Driver was installed from
  6. It is also a MAJOR resource hog.

WildTangent Web Driver
--------------------------------------------------------------

BitLord 1.1

Please note that as long as you're using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur.
Once upon a time, P2P file sharing was fairly safe. That is no longer true. You may continue to use P2P sharing at your own risk; however, please keep in mind that this practice may be the source of your current malware infestation.
Additional information on the safety of Peer to Peer Networks is here : http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/
You can also catch a list of tested P2P programs here: http://p2p.malwareremoval.com/

--------------------------------------------------------------

Ok now Ewido has released a new verison now called AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

---------------------------------------------------------------

Please remove programs:

Add/Remove Programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following:

    Internet Explorer Security Plugin 2006
    Power Scan

    ewido anti-spyware 4.0
Remove these if you decide to do so.
    Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
    Viewpoint Media Player
    WildTangent Web Driver

You will need to reboot computer to complete uninstall.

      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [trioService] "C:\PROGRA~1\Freeze.com\Halloween\\trioService.exe "
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfAccuracy] C:\Program Files\SurfAccuracy\SAcc.exe
      O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [License Manager] "C:\Program Files\License_Manager\license_manager.exe " /silent

Hi dbryj
Thanks for posting logs.

Hey my computer seems to be running OK. I do have this AOL toolbar on my internet browser thats annoying me though. but it shouldnt be too big of a problem because i assume i can delete it just by going to add/delete programs.

Yes you can go to add/Remove Programs and remove AOL Toolbar 2.0 That is in program list. I will include when to remove in steps below.
----------------------------------------------------------------

Some cleaning up here:
Disable program can interfer with HJT fix.

  • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5(Ewido) Tray Icon and choose Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.

----------------------------------------------------------------
Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):

    O2 - BHO: SpywareBlock Class - {0A87E45F-537A-40B4-B812-E2544C21A09F} - C:\Program Files\SpyCatcher 2006\SCActiveBlock.dll (file missing)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Use Explorer to navigate to and delete the following folder (if it is present) just what is in red:

Folders:

  • C:\Program Files\SpyCatcher 2006

----------------------------------------------------------------

Updating Java
Your version of Java is now outdated. Java vulnerabilites are commonly exploited by viruses. You need to update.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Click Start>Run type in appwiz.cpl and hit Enter. and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Remove any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. <<<<< here you can remove AOL Toolbar 2.0 from program list.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
----------------------------------------------------------------

This is my normal post for when you are clear - which you now are - or seem to be. Please advise of any problems you still have :-

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

  1. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
You can find instructions on how to enable and re enable system restore here:
    Managing Windows Millennium System Restore
    or
    Windows XP System Restore Guide
re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
  2. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

      1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      3. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  3. Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
  4. Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  5. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls
  6. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  7. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  8. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  9. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware
  10. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Stand up and be Counted.
NOW is the time you can start to hit back at the people who infected you.
Image
Please take the time to go and complain - that forum has a topic for your infection which is Smitfraud please post as a reply, you will need to register to do so. It will also have a list of other places you can go to to register your complaint, depending on the country you are resident in. Please read the topics and complain, it is only with such complaints to goverment or government agances that something will get done.

May your God go with you.
