Hello blueranger,

Thanks for posting the requested logs. Vundo log is ok, infection is not active but I wanted to be sure as vundo has a rootkit behavior, we will remove registry leftovers later on.

Combofix did exactly delete the same files as the first time ... sounds like you get reinfected over and over again. Those Chinese infections are really stubborn. :(
We've made some progress but we still have lot's of things to do and we will get that nasty bugger. :)

Please save these instructions to Notepad as internet will not be available during the fix.

Update AVG Anti-Spyware and disable active protection

Open AVG anti-Spyware.
  • On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
    • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
    • Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
    • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
    • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
  • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
  • Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.

Disconnect from Internet and don't connect until instructions below are done.

Click start > run > type cmd.exe and hit enter.

A CMD window will open, type each of the following commands followed by enter.

sc stop iSPONER (followed by enter)
sc delete iSPONER (followed by enter)

Close the CMD window.

You might get messages ... just let me know afterwards but don't connect to Internet to tell me please, just continue with the fix. :)

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.

  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

Hello blueranger,

Sorry for not getting back earlier, we had some bad weather yesterday and my connection kept dropping.

You asked me to delete all items in c:\windows temp but none were present
Ok, that's perfect. Baddies leave sometimes temporary files behind in different locations, that folder is one of them. Since I'm not in front of your PC, I can't see if the folder contains files. :)

I ran AVG anti spyware scan but nothing was found.
Good.

Logically you must have been referring to a new hijack this log
Yes, I did. :)

Looks very good, do you still have problems with Chinese homepage or redirects, Toolbars ?

I still have a couple of tasks for you.

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. Make sure that you have one blank line at the end of the document as shown in the quoted text.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\shellexecutehooks]
"{AEB6717E-7E19-11d0-97EE-00C04FD91972}"=-

Save it to your desktop as Fixme.reg. Save it as :
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: Fixme.reg

Locate Fixme.reg on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the merged successfully prompt.
______________________________

I would like to see a complete startuplist again please.

Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section, put a checkmark in List also minor sections and List empty sections. Click on Generate StartupList log, anwser Yes and copy/paste the content in your reply.
______________________________

Make sure that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\RUNDLL.EXE is not present anymore, if found delete the file.
______________________________

I would like to have some files for analyses, Killbox made a backup of them. Normally you should have a few files in C:\!Killbox folder. If that is the case, please follow the instructions below.

Please download the Suspicious File Packer from here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/files/sfp.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and run it.

Paste the following list of bad files into the Suspicious File Packer window:

C:\!Killbox\hidport.sys
C:\!Killboxaggafbjg.sys
C:\!Killboxbind_40036.exe
C:\!Killbox\joya.exe
C:\!Killbox\tshz093.exe
C:\!Killbox\927up.exe
C:\!Killbox\kw_wl_lyric_020.exe
C:\!Killbox\rundll.exe

Allow SFP to pack the files. This will generate a CAB archive on your desktop.

Please click on the link below.
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/ind ... ;board=1.0

You will be taken to a new post page (at a different forum)
In the subject box put Chinese infection for Kimberly
Please put your name and email in the box. In the message portion, please paste this:
Code: Select all
Infected files for Kimberly
Suspect: hidport.sys
logfile: http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14727

Then, by the attach bar at the bottom, hit 'browse'. Navigate to your desktop and find the file below and hit ok:

requested-files[2006-10-24_xx_xx].cab

The filename may not be exactly this but it will end in .cab

Then click submit to upload that file. That way our experts can analyse the files.

Please post a link to the topic at the other forum as a response to this topic along with the resquested logs.

HELP

Unread postby blueranger » October 24th, 2006, 1:19 pm

Hi Kim,

Does this mean you have helped as much as you can? If so thanks for your help and patience.

In relation to your question I have not had any problems with the chinese toolbar, changing of my home page or loading of chinese websites recently. Only problem I have had is with one of the programs on my list of programs, even when removed it seems to install again.

I will now follow the actions you suggest.

Thanks

HELP!! (STILL)

Unread postby blueranger » October 24th, 2006, 2:05 pm

Kim,

Latest log attached, slightly different as you asked me to run differently so dont know if/how to delete rundll.exe. Can you advise?

What I should say is that at weekend I installed zonealarm firewall and it mentioned whether I should allow/deny access to it earlier. Obviously I said deny:

Kim,

The link you requested is below, Ive now done everything you said and will await your next instruction:

http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/ind ... ;board=1.0

Only concern I have is that whilst I was attaching files you suggested on other site my AVG Anti Virus popped up with one of the names and asked whether i wanted to ignore/heal etc. Whilst I was pondering this promptly disappeared.

Let me know what next!

Thanks

Hello Mark,

First of all, thanks for uploading the files, much appreciated. :)

Only concern I have is that whilst I was attaching files you suggested on other site my AVG Anti Virus popped up with one of the names and asked whether i wanted to ignore/heal etc. Whilst I was pondering this promptly disappeared.
AVG Anti Virus did recognize one of the files and prolly did delete the file. No worries about the alert.
When everything is done, we will clean up the backup folder too so that everything is clean.

Does this mean you have helped as much as you can?
No, if something is still wrong, we will try to see what and fix it of course. :)

In relation to your question I have not had any problems with the chinese toolbar, changing of my home page or loading of chinese websites recently.
That is good news. Means we had all the files then. :)

Only problem I have had is with one of the programs on my list of programs, even when removed it seems to install again.
May I ask you which program ? We might be able to remove it. It is possible that it came bundled with something and that's why it keeps reinstalling.

Deleting file :

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Next, you will be entering items into Pocket KillBox. Please select the “Delete on Rebootâ€

HELP

Unread postby blueranger » October 25th, 2006, 12:19 pm

Hi Kim

Have done the actions you suggest. I did get the Pending File Rename Operations registry data has been removed" error that you suggested so had to reboot manually. Hopefully you can check this removed ok?

The strange proram that I refer to I can't give you a name, it just looks like a series of strange symbols and can be viewed on Start>All programs. I cant see the file on the Control Panel (add/remove) programs though. So this will be another one we need to remove.

Thanks for your help, will wait your next instructions.

Thanks

GUTTED!!!

Unread postby blueranger » October 25th, 2006, 1:52 pm

Hi Kim

I am gutted!!! :(

Thought I would let you know I have been online so I can check for any updates from you, and guess what my home page has automatically changed again to http://www.7255.com.

Do you know why this may be??? Only thing I can think of is that I emptied my recycle bin before, could it be anything to do with this?

Thanks

That's Chinese stuff again, they do show strange characters in the control panel :(
Now, the entry in Add / Remove might be a leftover ... but seeing your second post which refers to a changed homepage, a small file did remain on the PC and downloaded the whole bundle again. :(

Thanks

Mark

Ok, can I have a startuplist / uninstall list please and a couple of additional scans ... 1 file left behind and hell starts over again, those chinese hijacks are really a pain to remove once installed on the PC.

The hidport.sys you did upload has rootkit behavior, so it can hide anything else. :(

Future AV detections will include this file.

Let's try to get a max of info ... and do our best to remove the crappies.

Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section, click on Open Uninstall Manager. Click on Save List and save uninstall_list.txt to your Desktop. Open this file in Notepad and copy/paste the content in your reply.
Click back (the one located at the right side of the save list button)
Put a checkmark in List also minor sections and List empty sections. Click on Generate StartupList log, anwser Yes and copy/paste the content in your reply.
Click Back and Click on Scan. When the scan is finished, click Save Log and paste the content in your reply.

Next ...

Download Gmer to your Desktop and unzip it to your Desktop.
http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Disconnect from internet and close running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double click gmer.exe.
Let the gmer.sys driver load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...say Ok.
If no warning....
Click the rootkit tab
To the right of the program you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked... leave everything checked. Then click the Scan button. Wait for the scan to finish.
Once done click the Copy button.
Open Notepad and hit ctrl+v to paste the log. Save the log to your desktop please.

Click the >>> tab. This will open up all available tabs for you.
Click the Autostart tab then the scan button. Once its done click the Copy button and paste it into a new notepad document. Save that document to your desktop please.

Post the 2 gmer logs and the hijackthis startuplist, uninstall list and hijackthis log please.

I forgot to ask / mention ....

Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section, click on Open Uninstall Manager. Highlight the ???? entries and on the right side you'll see the uninstall command. Copy that info back here please.

DON'T use the uninstaller, everything is in chinese and if you press the wrong button, you might reinstall everthing instead of removing it (what might have happend unfortunately).

Thanks :)
