Hi BATCAT102003

Welcome to MalWare Removal! I'm looking through your log now, and will post back soon.

Until I complete my training, everything that I post to you must be checked by an expert - so there may be a small delay between posts.

Thanks for your patience. :)

Sorry for the delay.

First, I need you to disable TrojanHunter Guard. This is a good program but it can interfere with the 'fix'.

Disable TrojanHunter Guard

Go to TrojanHunter Guard in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a light blue magnifying glass icon with a red handle. Right click it and select Settings. Uncheck Load at startup and Enabled. Remember to re-enable it when we have finished.

SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Please download SmitfraudFix. If you still cannot connect to the internet, please download it to another computer and transfer it to the problem one.

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press 'Enter'; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a 'RiskTool'; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between 'good' and 'malicious' use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

Run HijackThis and click Scan and then check (tick) the following, if present (don't worry if any are missing):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {a2595f37-48d0-46a1-9b51-478591a97764} - (no file)

Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Make sure that only the above items are checked and then click on Fix checked.

It's possible that the TrojanDNS.changer (or one of the tools that you used to get rid of it) could have messed up your network connection.

Click on Start and then Control Panel.
If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double-click on Network Connections.
Then right-click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection, and left-click on Properties. Click the Networking tab.
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says Obtain DNS servers automatically.
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.

Next, click on Start, then Run, type cmd and click OK. A command prompt (black window) will open.
Type ipconfig /flushdns (that space between g and / is needed)
Hit the Enter key, type exit then hit Enter again.

Reboot your computer and try to connect to the internet and to your own network.

Please let me know if you can connect and post, as a reply to this thread:

Hi.

AVG Anti-Spyware:

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open. Do not run a scan yet.

If the program does not automatically update itself during installation, or you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:
  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
You will need to change the following settings:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is... click active. This should now change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click the Scanner icon at the top and then click the Settings Tab.
  • Under How to act? click Recommended actions and select Quarantine from the menu.
You can now close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not scan yet.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune © from here : http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
This is a stand-alone program that does not need to be installed. Save it to a convenient location and make a shortcut on your desktop. Do not use it yet.

You will need to reboot your computer into Safe Mode for the next steps. It would be a good idea for you to print these instructions, as you will not have access to the internet.

Important: If you have an always on connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press 'Enter'.
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press 'Enter' to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : 'Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?'; answer 'Yes' by typing Y and press 'Enter' in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer 'Yes' by typing Y and press 'Enter'.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt.

Reboot into Safe Mode (as above).

Updating AVG Anti-Spyware

I'm assuming that you have managed to get AVG Anti-Spyware downloaded and installed on the infected computer.

Using a computer that can connect to the internet, go to: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/

Towards the bottom of the page, there is a section:
Full database
This installer always includes the complete database.

Click on the button marked Download starten under AVG Anti-Spyware:

This should download file called: avgas-signatures-full-current.exe

Transfer this file to the infected computer. Double-click on the file to install the updates.

Connectivity Problems

Are you up to date with Windows updates and patches for your networked computers? If not, this could be causing problems and I would suggest that you run Windows Update on all of them.

WinSock XP Fix: This may possibly help the connectivity issue for your laptop: http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

Important: If you cannot get AVG Anti-Spyware updated, please run the SmitfraudFix and ATF Cleaner, as per my last post.

Please post, as a reply to this thread:
  • The Smitfraud report (c:\rapport.txt)
  • The AVG Anti-Spyware log (if you're able to update)
  • A new HijackThis log
You may need several replies to post the requested logs, otherwise they might get cut off.
