Hi Infiltrator4 -

One issue is that you have two Anti-Virus ("AV") programs installed on your computer. Having more than one AV installed will likely cause your system to run slowly and/or become unstable as well as seriously decrease the reliable detection of any malware since the two AV's will likely "compete" against each other.
You can keep both programs, but you must disable the real-time component of one AV, keeping it as an on-demand scanner, while the other AV will provide a real-time protection.
The alternative is to uninstall one AV and keep the other.

Also, I see that you have eMule installed. As you may know, many p2p programs come bundled with malware. As far as I know, Version 0.47a is the only clean version of eMule. If you do not have this version, I suggest that you uninstall the version of eMule that you have.
- Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
- Select eMule
- click Remove
- Exit.

:!: Reboot your computer.

• Start HijackThis, click System Scan Only and place a checkmark next to the following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com

Close ALL browsers and open windows/programs except HijackThis and click 'Fix Checked'.

• Navigate to and delete the following folder if present:
C:\Program Files\eMule <- only if you uninstalled the program.

:!: Reboot your computer.

• Perform an onlinescan with Panda Online. Please use this scanner instead of any other scanner! You have to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component, allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When the download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the "See Report" button, then "Save Report" and save it to a convenient location.

• Post back with the results of the Panda scan and a new HijackThis log.

Shoot, sorry for the late reply... T-T

As far as I know AVG is the only anti virus I have on this computer. I think the other one may be remants of like McAfee that I used to have, but I deleted it.

Also, whenever I run AVG, it comes up with a lot of trojans, and it says that they can only be deleted through window's updates? How does that work? And I checked and I do have windows update on automatic like the AVG software advised. Do I wait for an udpate that'll take care of them or can they be cleaned out from the HJT log?

Hi,

Your log looks clean.

McAfee is still running on your computer - not leftovers. That means you still have the two AV programs installed, i.e., AVG and McAfee, which is problematic as I previously indicated.

As far as the problems you are having with AVG, you may want to post in the AVG Free Forum.

• To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

• Install Spywareblaster. SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for so-called spyware but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage. Update it periodically.

• Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save to your desktop.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
This is a good program for periodically cleaning your system. Instructions are here

* Avoid illegal sites because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside pop-ups. If you should get them, use ALT + F4 to close them.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software because most of these so-called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

• Let your anti-spyware scanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before scanning.

• I suggest you perform an online virus-scan once in a while (Housecall and/or Bitdefender) because what one virus-scanner can't find, another one maybe can.
Also, make sure that your virus-scanner, the one that is already installed on your system, is always up to date!

• Make sure your Windows has the latest updates by going here.

• More information on how to prevent malware can be found at So how did I get infected in the first place? by Tony Klein.

Happy surfing again! :)

Panda found cookies which you can clean along with your temp files by doing the following:

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
