OOps! Sorry about the previous reply!
Too much information as they say!

This one was done with the option to scan all files rather than just program files. dont know if it makes any difference.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting the log.

Boot into Safe Mode. Search for and delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\appsv32.exe
File C:\WINDOWS\d3yn.exe
File C:\WINDOWS\iepc.exe
File C:\WINDOWS\javaws.exe

Browse to the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Delete all the files in the folder, do not delete the folder itself. Empty your Recycle Bin. Run CCleaner.

Reboot Windows normally and post a new HijackThis log please.

Also, let me know if you are still experiencing the same issues when you're done.

Thanks!

Run and scan with HijackThis. With all browsers and windowsd closed, place a check beside the following and fix:

O23 - Service: Network Security Service (NSS) ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\d3yn.exe" /s (file missing)

Boot into Safe Mode. Search for and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\d3yn.exe

Reboot Windows normally.

Download scanbat. Extract/unzip the files inside to your desktop. Open the folder, find and run scan.bat. Post the contents of the text file that opens up along with a new HijackThis log please.

Hello. When I check the item you said to fix, the window just goes blank and nothing happens. I've tried several times and the same thing happens. It wont let me remove it in safe mode either.
I have removed the entry that was making IE try to start up when the pc was booted, by removing it from the startup list, so thats not a prob now.

OK... some info for you... that 023 looks like part of an About:Blank infection. Strange thing about it is that I haven't seen any other indications of an A:B infection on your computer. I've been hoping this is a remnant of some sort, and as such haven't put you through a complete A:B fix yet. Going to try a regfix one more time. If it doesn't work, I may have to get you to do a complete A:B fix. Hopefully it won't come to that though :)

So....

Copy/paste the following quote box into Notepad

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services\ 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I]

Like last time... save it on your Desktop as fixme.reg. Save it as File Type "ALL FILES".

Double click fixme.reg and answer yes to merge it into the registry.

Reboot, wait about 15 minutes, reboot again and post a new HijackThis log please. Hopefully that line won't come back.

Excellent! Log is CLEAN!! Good Work!!

You can leave that Start Page setting in HijackThis alone. That is what HijackThis changes that setting to when it fixes those items. It's OK.

Now some suggestions...

To clean up any remnants that may have been left behind, I suggest doing a couple online virus scans. A couple good ones are Panda ActiveScan and TrendMicro HouseCall. Let them fix anything they find. Reboot between each scan.

Both Ad-Aware and Spybot have their programs updated recently. Ad-Aware has been updated to v1.06 and Spybot has been updated to v1.4. If you haven't updated your versions, please do so. You can grab them from the links in my sig.

Visit this page for proper configuration of Spybot and Ad-Aware. Run and scan with both, letting them fix whatever they find. Remember to reboot between each scan.

Now that your computer is clean, its a good time to reset your System Restore point. This will ensure a clean backup to fall upon if you ever need it. To do this:
  • Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives"

Reboot your computer, follow the steps above, this time unchecking the "Turn off System Restore" and reboot.

I recommend downloading and installing SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and IE-SPYAD as well. You can get them from the links in my sig. The programs are free and can be updated... so please do so. Installing these will go a long way in preventing reinfection.

If you don't have one, I recommend installing a Firewall. I'm sure you've heard of ZoneAlarm.

Check out the links in my sig named How'd I get Infected and Understanding Spyware as well, some good information for you.

You should also think about updating XP to Service Pack 2. It fixes a lot of security issues.

Other than that, remember to update Windows frequently, update your protection programs, scan often and...

Surf Safe!
