Unread postby Chopper1 » August 23rd, 2006, 9:32 am

Hi there. I have a virus on my computer and cant get rid of it.The problem happened whilst online it cut my connection and i couldnt get connected again, even now i cant get online.I tried re-installing my NTL cd but halfway through re-installation a message displaying something similar to "Your computer is infected with spyware or adware and the hompage has been changed" appeared??? I ran a virus scan with Ewido(which was the only anti-virus software that detected the trojans) and quarantined then deleted them. Ewido did delete them but one remains- Adware.spyheal, even after being deleted when rebooted the Adware.spyheal is still detected. I also tried to restore my computer to an earlier time but when i got to the restore calendar there was no dates in bold so i was unable to restore . Can anyone help with this as its driving me bonkers?? Any help would be much appreciated .

Thank you

Download HiJackThis from here

unzip it to c:/ make sure the exe stays in it's own folder.
Open HJT and choose scan and save a log file. Post the contents of that log in your next reply. Each time I ask you to do this a new log will be saved within that folder replacing the last one.

You may download this from a good Machine and move it to the other machine via cd/usb flash drive ect...

Download w2fix.exe. to the desktop (Important: w2fix.exe cannot be run from a floppy disk as the program reboots the computer and a floppy disk would interfere with the boot sequence.)

Note: If you accidentally downloaded the program to a location other than the Desktop, copy it to the Desktop now
Double click on the w2fix file on your Desktop and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted to reboot your computer twice before the fix is complete.

I assume that winsock didn't fix your internet connection ?

Please download WinPFind2.

  • Extract the files to a folder(eg: C:\WinPFind2).
  • Double click WinPFind2.exe to start the program.
  • Click the Select All button in the File Options box of the Configuration tab(this is the tab the program opens up to by default).
  • Click the Run all Scans button.
  • When its finished scanning you will see Scans Complete! at the bottom left of the program.
  • Click the Export to Text button.
  • Notepad will open with the results of the scan and the log will be saved to the folder that you extracted the program to(C:\WinPFind2\WinPFind2.txt)
  • Post the log in your next reply please. You may need to split the log over a couple posts so that it doesn't get cut off. If so please use the [Start Post #1] and [Start Post #2] deliminators in the log to split the log up.

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

I am looking through the WPfind log now.
Sorry about the winsock fix. I did post the wrong link. Glad you caught me.
I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Still waiting to hear about something.
But lets look at a few things.

First in case things get worse. Lets make sure system restore is on.

Right click My Computer
Then Propeties then system restore
Make sure there is NO check mark Turn off system restore
Click APPLY
Click OK.

__________
Go to control panel
Click network connections.
Choose your connection..
On the left side of the screen choose repair.
Let me know what windows tells you there.
weather it repaired or was unable to repair.

If non of that helps.

Please download this network troubleshooting tool
Then you need to extract the file, and double click on the mynetwork.exe file. A black dos box will open up. Do not close this. Type in 'n' if it asks you if you want to include the dns cache. Click 'y' if it asks if you want to open this with notepad. A notepad window should now open. Paste the contents of the notepad file here.
