Register to Remove

Unread postby Bertha » April 24th, 2005, 2:32 pm

mehlers,

Hello! and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.

===============

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

===============

There is only an Optional Fix on your System that I see

You are running Hijackthis from your Desktop

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C:
then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

Viewpoint Manager(optional)

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders: see here - http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

folders...

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode" see here - http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ts ... ec_doc_nam

===============

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

-

It is known as an Optional Removal (Spyware Related)

You dont have to remove it if you wish

Also when you have come back with a New Log we can remove some of the unnecessary O4 entries which are taking up your computer usage

I kept the Viewpoint files.

I did a virus scan with McAfee - found no problems.

Also, I am not being notified by email.
