"Better" doesn't actually come into play here.

IE has a few more specialized features. It allows ActiveX's to run, it can save entire web pages as single .mht file, and is required to do Windows Updates manually.

Firefox is a bit more secure, partly as a result of NOT allowing ActiveX's, and some like the way it works with tabbed browsing, etc. It also has what some think is a better set of specialized plug-ins. BBcode, etc

There are a few websites that don't display properly with one or the other.

IE7 incorporated tabs as well, but IE6 does not.

So it's more a matter of preferences based on knowing the limitations and features of each.

I certainly don't want to feed the flame.....But:

Firefox Fan here....

Image:D :D

I like the customization you can do with FF. Although IE isn't really bad, I just like FF better.

Hi mikeymikey23, I am also a ff user. The main difference I found between ff and ie7 was that ff was way too faster tha ie. I fu want to get the best out of ff then try downloading some interesting add-ons and personalize your browser with new themes plugins etc. These can be found : Here

Hope this helps

Press all the buttons and see what they do. :D

Seriously, it's the only way to find out what any programme does. You'll remember things a whole lot better by "discovering" them yourself than by someone else telling you.

Better is just a personal opinion. I prefer Firefox, but the wrong configurations can make it unsecure, though that barely happens.

If you are one who prefers to customize everything, Firefox is very good in this sense. You can write your own configuration files and load it into Firefox to secure some settings.

There are also some addons which you can add too, further improving Firefox. Some are nearly a must, like NoScript and AdBlock Plus for me.

There are a lot of settings to edit via about:config as well, some are for speed, others for security, others for usability.

There's one particular one which I hate, web masters who made use of plug-ins default settings (which are insecured by default) to launch pop-ups or pop-unders, despite having a pop-up/pop-under turn on.

The setting to turn it off:

1. Type in about:config in the address bar.
2. Right click on any settings and select New > Integer.
3. Copy and paste in privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins.
4. Put in a value of 2.

Don't load too many addons to Firefox though, that will slow it down.

As for tips to Firefox, it's actually very close to IE, just that there's no ActiveX.

Shouldn't be too hard to use. You might be prompted for install plugins, like Flash, Real Player, Shockwave, etc. None of these are installed in Firefox by default.

If you want to try another one that is both fast and has some of the add ons try Opera. It is faster than either IE ofr FF. It also got some interesting widgets that can be added.
There is really no answer to the question.
However sometimes you do need IE because nothing else works right with the site you want. That is specially true with Microsoft sites but there are others as well.

@askey127

Just curious. Which BBcode extension(s) do you use with FF? I've used FF for years, but I have not tried any of the BBcode extensions yet. :)
