Lenovo Startpage Pushed Angler

Unread postby capnkrunch » March 24th, 2016, 6:08 pm

Based on upstream detection reports from our customers… it appears that a Lenovo related website was compromised on March 13th. For some (relatively short) period of time, the portal site “startpage.lenovo.com” redirected visitors towards the infamous Angler exploit kit – a source of no small amount of crypto-ransomware.

That's terrible. I'm certainly glad to hear the breach was quickly discovered and addressed.

Yes, they responded well it seems like. It's important to remember that no website is immune from being compromised so response is very important to consider.

That said, I think Lenovo comes out of this looking worse than other vendors would have given their spotty security record over the past year or so.

Yes, Lenovo do not exactly have a good record when it comes to matters of computer security, and as things stand I would be loath to recommend them to anyone.
