Based on upstream detection reports from our customers… it appears that a Lenovo related website was compromised on March 13th. For some (relatively short) period of time, the portal site “startpage.lenovo.com” redirected visitors towards the infamous Angler exploit kit – a source of no small amount of crypto-ransomware.
Yes, they responded well it seems like. It's important to remember that no website is immune from being compromised so response is very important to consider.
That said, I think Lenovo comes out of this looking worse than other vendors would have given their spotty security record over the past year or so.
Yes, Lenovo do not exactly have a good record when it comes to matters of computer security, and as things stand I would be loath to recommend them to anyone.
