Hi Gary, fell at the first hurdle, something is just not right.
It checked that updates were up to date, then said "Let's get started and within 30 seconds tells me WINDOWS 10 COULDN'T BE INSTALLED.
Just re-checking for available updates shows 6:- Skype, two Graphics drivers, and three Win 8.1 optional ones.

Checking further, the Win 10 update is somewhat obscure and despite the icon being in my sys tray, the blessed thing seems not to have been downloaded!
Is that normal?
It is (apparently) downloading now, 35% complete.....
...waiting ...waiting I'll edit again later and advise :|

Now it's installed, but after trying to move the Onedrive folder from the "C:" drive to the "D:" data drive I have no control over the track pad any more!

Panto season come early!
Oh yes I have!
I have no idea how, I just thank Almighty Microsoft, that I have once more been blessed with a working machine, ...who cares where the sodding Onedrive folder lives!

So, am I right in thinking that Windows 10 is now installed on your computer ?

Apart from the One Drive folder, are you having any other problems ?

Hi Gary, yes Win 10 has in stalled but I'm having grave problems with the Trackpad and it's buttons.
At boot, I have control of the pointer then once signed in, the pointer disappears and scribbling on the trackpad doesn't conjure it up.
after a few seconds it appears and moves a little but jerkily, and then it just freezes.
Using the KB shortcut "Win Key + X" to summon the Device Manager WAS doing the trick without anything further, but now even that has not galvanised the trackpad into action.
I now have three instances of it open but no way to navigate through the items.

Just managed to navigate to "Mice & Other pointing Devices" and expanded the entry, the second level shows "Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad Properties"
Device type: Mice and other pointing devices
Manufacturer: Synaptics
Location: plugged into PS/2 mouse port
Device Status:
This device is working properly. ...Really?

No idea where to go from here. :(

Managed to try to update driver but how did I guess, "Current driver best available"!
Looking at the "Events" tab, there are a whole host of entries, negotiating them is all but impossible using the keyboard.
I have no clue how to proceed.
Help!

Found an old Dell Optical USB Mouse and managed to access "Additional Mouse Properties" where there is an entry called "Synaptic TouchPad V7.5 on PS/2 port.
It's highlighted but the "Enable" column, and the three buttons below it (Enable, Disable and Settings) are all flashing like something from a pinball table!

Doesn't sound good, and to be honest it's outside my area of expertise, so it would probably be best if I were to refer you to a forum that specialises in W10 problems.

This is not because I want to "wash my hands" of your problems, but because you're more likely to get your problems resolved if you get helped by people who are used to troubleshooting these kind of issues.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ ... 0-support/
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/forum/199-windows-10/
http://www.tenforums.com/

The forums listed above are in no order of preference, and the level of support at each of them is usually excellent.

As I said earlier I'll leave this topic open, and if you're not able to get the assistance you need, let me know, and I'll see what else I can do to help you further.

Thank you Gary, I'll try those, gone with your first choice and hope they can sort it for me.
Might also try Medion in the morning, though I won't hold my breath for them!

Bleeping Computer are very good, and they're also a very big forum, so they've usually got a lot of helpers available, and so you shouldn't have to wait long. Let's hope they're able to resolve your W10 problems for you.

Blimey! you're up early.
Sorry I've only just checked the email account, Have to agree, but they are so much n advance of me that the things they are asking me to do I just can't manage.
I'm actually on the machine in question now, been using it on and off all day, I seem to have found a way to (occasionally) get the track pad working with most of it's functions, both buttons work and also the "push/pull" two finger gestures also works, only the scrolling feature at the right hand edge seems to be missing, ...if I could only get it to "latch" in the "enabled" mode, it would be more thatn acceptable.
Another can of worms has raised it's head though, this evening, I was suddenly aware that the damned keyboard was not working!
got it back after a re-boot then had to coax the trackpad back into action! Oyvey!
Still, there can't be much wrong with the drivers of either if they do actually WORK!
the problem is to get them to endure!
On the phone to Medion Germany this morning for an hour, They recon that the machine was not suitable for W10, ...they also said it was supplied with W7, it wan't, it was loaded with W8 when I bought it, so I really can't rely on them!
Strange though, whilst on with them they guided me to download the latest W10 driver from Synaptics, and the machine warned me that it was not as recent as the driver installed!!! Medion advised against proceeding, not sure why, 'cos you could always roll back to the previous one , ..can't you?
So Many questions and no answers!!
Sorry to bend your ear, and thanks for "looking in"

The trouble with Windows 10, is that it automatically updates, and you can't control that, it's the only option available to you and it cannot be overwritten.

Now in most cases that's not a problem, and in fact from a security standpoint it's actually quite a good thing. There is however a problem if an updated driver causes problems, since if you revert to an older driver to resolve the issue, you can't prevent Windows 10 from updating it again.

Now obviously I can't say that that's what is happening in your case, but the fact that someone asked you to download a driver from Synaptics, and it turned out to be different from the one that Microsoft is distributing in its updates (and which is installed on your machine), does rather point to this sort of scenario as a possible source of your touchpad/keyboard problems.

Try and stick with the guys at BC, and see if they can get this issue sorted. If you're having problems understanding what they want you to do, post me a link to your help topic over there, and I'll see if I can translate/simplify what they're asking you to do (I don't guarantee that I can, but I'm happy to have a try).

As you're now being helped with your problem at BC, and because I haven't heard back from you since my last post on Tuesday, I will presume that your problem has been dealt with, and do not need my assistance further, and will close this topic.
