Unread postby garyinarush » February 25th, 2006, 11:23 am

Hi GaryInARush again.

This time a log from my laptop. askey127 has been of great assistance and I believe we are nearly there with my main machine, so I thought I may as well repeat the process for my struggling laptop... It may be just too slow but if anything can be done to help it cope then it would be really appreciated! ;)

Hi Garyinarush, :D

Welcome to MR. :D The lap top doesn't have anything serious. A little tidying up is in order.

Please scan with HijackThis. Put a checkmark against the following entries:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL=http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/ie/defaults/stp/ymsgr*http://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... earch.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... earch.html
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D80C4E21-C346-4E21-8E64-20746AA20AEB} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {5AA06644-BC46-4220-A460-47A6EB47C96D} - (no file)

Close all other windows/browsers/applications, except HijackThis and click on "fix checked".

The following entries are not malware but either not needed at the start up and/or are major resource hogs. You can still use them whenever you need them. Please read the links provided in the brackets. If you decide that you would rather not have them at the start up, include them in the above fix.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Portfolio] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb.exe /AllUsers(The Works Portfolio tool lets you collect and organize text and pictures from the Web or your favorite program. Can be prevented from starting from a setting within Portfolio)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime(please check this)
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE (it's a resource hog)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Photo Downloader] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.0\Apps\apdproxy.exe" (please check this)

===========================================

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes next to:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".

Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

If you use the Firefox or Opera browsers, you can use this program as a quick way to tidy those up as well.

Firefox :
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Opera :
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

When you have finished, click on the Exit button in the Main menu.

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu

I am sure Askey127 will be giving you tips on how to keep your computer and internet surfing safe. So, I won't repeat it here.

Happy and Safe Surfing. :)
