Hi Gary Galbraith, Welcome to MalWare Removal !!

Are you having any specific problems ??

Your log is CLEAN !!

I did notice online virus scanners that you have run, but not one running on your pc!!

May I recommend some Good Free Antivirus Programs:
AVG© by Grisoft
AntiVir© by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH
Avast© by ALWIL Software
NOTE:Remember always have just 1 antivirus program running at a time. Having more than one running causes a conflict between the programs !! You can use one as a backup to run manually

your help

Unread postby Gary Galbraith » February 19th, 2006, 4:03 pm

I use Netscape 7.2 for a browser, Something keeps setting Internet Explorer to work off line Most of the time, this hasn’t happened till about 2 weeks ago. I just got DSL, and it uses MSM, Do I Have too many browsers?

When I try to run Windows Update, It brings up Internet Explorer, then that window just stops doing anything, I try to use Windows Update thru Help and Support, the same thing happens there.

I can get to Windows Update on MSN.

Thank you for reading my LogFile, I appreciate the help
I will get one of the Antivirus programs you suggested.

You are very Welcome !!

IE or MSN Browser will work with Windows Update

If you prefer Netscape just set it as the Prefered browser.

Hi Gary Galbraith,

It was brought to my attention that I may have missed a line .

There seems to be some "unknown" files in your log. I need you to submit them for investigation!!

I need you to go here:
Jotti Malware Scan

Click on the Browse button and navigate to :

C:\WINDOWS\ftpsconfig.dll

Click on Submit

Copy and paste the results here.

When results come back we can proceed!
Thank you!

Thanks Gary,

Reboot to Safe mode
Restart your computer and begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard just before Windows starts to load
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear.
Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter

Run HijackThis
Scan and when it finishes, put a check mark only next to these following items : (if present)

O18 - Filter: text/html - {0EB00690-8FA1-11D3-96C7-829E3EA50C29} - C:\WINDOWS\ftpsconfig.dll

Close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open
Click Fix Checked

Open Windows Explorer, locate and Delete the following folders or files in BOLD : (if present)

C:\WINDOWS\ftpsconfig.dll

Empty your Recycle Bin

Reboot to Normal Mode and post a fresh HijackThis log here

Thanks

Sorry to butt in on your thread Link...

Gary... if you read this post before you follow Link's intructions... could I get you to zip that file, C:\WINDOWS\ftpsconfig.dll, put a password of "infected" on it... and email it to me at pleiadesATshawDOTca.

Replace AT with @ and DOT with . of course.

Thanks!

Gary Galbraith,

Here are a few tools that I recommend for protecting your system and keeping your system clean !!

Real Time Prevention
SpywareBlaster© by Javacool Software
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page

Firewalls:
If you have an "always on" internet connection, such as DSL or Cable, I recommend a Firewall.
A firewall will make your pc invisible to the outside world and will filter the outgoing and incoming traffic on your pc.
For a good idea of how vulnerable your system(s) are go to GRC
Scroll down to "Shields Up" Click on "Proceed" Then click on "Common Ports"to scan your ports.
Very good Firewalls :
ZoneAlarm Firewall© by Zone Labs
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall© by Sunbelt

Alternative Browsers :
Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness
FireFox© by Mozilla
Opera© by Opera Software ASA

Install Java :
Java Runtime Environment© Sun Microsystems. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine

Always keep your Antivirus & Spyware Removal Tools current with the latest definitions and updates !!
