hi Giles,

I'm Gary R. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
Please be patient, I know that you want your problems solved quicky, and I will work hard to help you.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

If you can do those two things, everything should go smoothly.

There's a couple of things on your HJT log need fixing.

You are currently running HijackThis from here:
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Che\LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

Please make a folder here:
C:/HJT
and place HijackThis in that folder.

DO NOT follow the steps below until you have moved HijackThis

Please print out these instructions, or save to a text file that you can view, as you are going to be offline for part of the cure, and will not have access to them.

Firstly I see you have Pest Trap installed on your computer. This is not a programme we would recommend, as it is on the Spyware Warrior Rogue List http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy

Most recent additions: PestTrap (1-18-06),

I recommend you uninstall it, using Add/Remove programmes in Control Panel.

Should there be no entry, follow the instructions below for halting a process. If you successfully uninstall it, you may omit this stage and go to the HJT fix.

First halt these Processes (if found), by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, this will bring up Windows Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab, scroll down to find the process, then click on the End Process button. Repeat till all processes are halted.

PestTrap.exe

Perform a scan using HJT, and check the following items (if found).

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: CM Band - {159C2E51-9823-11D2-8DDC-D84A1B4ACD4D} - C:\Program Files\Crystalys media\cm.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdates] C:\Program Files\winupdates\winupdates.exe /auto
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PestTrap] C:\Program Files\PestTrap\PestTrap.exe
O16 - DPF: {8FCDF9D9-A28B-480F-8C3D-581F119A8AB8} - http://static.zangocash.com/cab/180solu ... ge-c24.cab

Close all windows except for the HJT window, and click the Fix Checked button.

Exit out of HijackThis.

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
1. Click Start.
2. Click My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Click Yes to confirm.
7. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Click OK.
Search for Hidden Files
By default, the Search companion does not search for hidden files. Because of this, you may be unable to find files, even though they exist on the drive.

To search for hidden or system files in Windows XP:

Click Start, click Search, click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options.
1. Click to select the Search hidden files and folders check boxes.

Shutdown your computer, and Boot Up into Safe Mode, by hitting the F8 key repeatedly as you power up.

This will bring up a menu, select Safe Mode and press enter. Log on as a user with administrator priviledges, and find and delete the following if found.

These Folders

C:\Program Files\Crystalys media
C:\Program Files\winupdates
C:\Program Files\PestTrap

Next we need to delete your Temporary Files.

Use Start > Run and type in %temp% . Delete the entire contents of that temp folder (use Edit > Select All, press Delete, click Yes).

Then, Empty your Temporary Internet Cache completely. Close all instances of Outlook and and Internet Explorer, then use Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab and click the Delete File button. When prompted place a check in: Delete all offline content, then click OK.

Then, use Windows Explorer to clean out ALL the other temp folders on your system (navigate to these folders, use Edit > Select All, press Delete, click Yes): Note: Do not Delete the Folder itself

* C:\Documents and Settings\Your Profile\Local Settings\Temp\
* C:\Documents and Settings\Any other users Profile\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
* C:\Documents and Settings\Any other users Profile\Local Settings\Temp\

* Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Please let me know about any problems with the temp file deletes.

Note: If you cannot delete them all at once because you have too many, then click and hold ctrl and highlight a batch of them at a time. Once highlighted, R-click over the highlight and select delete. Rinse, lather, repeat until folder is empty

Reboot into Normal mode.

Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.

  1. Install ewido security suite
  2. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..

    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  3. Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  4. The program will now open to the main screen.
  5. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  6. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.

    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:

  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Close ewido security suite.

Now can you send me the Ewido log, and a new HJT log please.

Thanks, Gary.

ps. I notice you have the temporary WMF exploit fix installed, the official Microsoft patch is now available from Windows Updates, I suggest you update your Windows, then uninstall the unofficial patch.
