Can't delete AdwCleaner 7.3.0.0 on WIN 10 Pro

This thread's last reply is from April 27, 2019, 3:33 PM UTC. Software, malware, and removal-tool advice below may be out of date — treat specific steps and download links with caution.

Since 4 April 2019 I've been trying unsuccessfully to totally remove a recurring “PUP.Optional.MySearchDial” issue the Malwarbytes keeps finding. I’ve been using AdwCleaner_7.3.exe several times to little effect as the same PUPs keep recurring. This is my minor problem that I’ll deal with later.

My major problem now is that I can’t remove the copy of AdwCleaner I installed in my WIN10 Pro Download folder. The file now appears corrupted as it is VERY slow to respond when I right click the file. The program then ‘hangs’ with just the hourglass displayed I click OPEN.

When I try to delete the file I get several displays that I attach. The files are in the order I get them are:
AdwClearner Delete.pdf (1st)
AdwCleaner Error Msg.pdf (2nd)
AdwCleaner Try-Again Result.pdf (3rd)

Sometimes I’ll get the AdwCleaner 2-Files.pdf display. (4th)

I never see the AdwCleaner file running when I use Task Manager and rebooting the PC doesn’t fix the problem.

Will no one rid me of this meddlesome file?

But seriously, I can use some help since I’ve never seen this type of problem before.

Thanks, Patrick Martin
I'm going to move your topic to the "Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my!" forum, as your problem looks as if it may have a malware related origin.

Dependant on whether your version of Windows is 32 bit or 64 bit .....

  • Download FRST to your Desktop.
  • Download FRST64 to your Desktop.
  • Double click Frst.exe or Frst64.exeto launch it.
  • FRST will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press the Scan button.
    • When finished scanning 2 logs will open on your Desktop, FRST.txt and Addition.txt
    • Please post them in your next reply.

Once I've had a look at those logs, I'll have a better idea of how to proceed with your problem.
