Hi dman11111,

Welcome to the Malware Removal forums. I will be more than happy to help you work on your problems.
Please give me some time to review your log as this can be a lengthy process. As soon as a MR Staff Member reviews my fix, I will post it for you.

While I’m doing this please visit Microsoft and upgrade to SP1a from here
Please let me know when you have this done.
Do not upgrade to SP2 until we have given you an all clean.

In the mean time, if any problems occur. Please let me know.
Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
If you’re unsure of anything at all please stop and ask!

Thanks,

Rogue

thanks for the fast reply rogue

i am proceeding with step one upgrading the system to windows service pack 1a
im confused as to why this system is so slow
it could be that im not used to a celeron 1.0 processor with 128 meg of ram haha
or the culprit could be malware slowing me down
i scanned for virues with the avast anti virus scanner
this was done in safe mode 1 virus came up and was deleted

i guess we will soon see

thanks again dave

Hi dman11111,

Looking at your log it appears to be clean. :thumbright:

You now need to Update Windows to SP2 to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the Internet. Please go to the windows update site to get the critical updates.
Please enable automatic updates. Click here for directions
Note that it will download them for you, but you still have to actually click install. Support staff have cleaned the blaster worm out of several computers who didn't have the patch installed, even though windows had already downloaded for them. If they had only clicked 'install' they would have been fine.
The Service Pack 2 download is too large for dial up. You can get a FREE copy on CD from Microsoft here
==========

As with all P2P sharing programs like Limewire they are susceptible to various forms of malware if you wish to remove Limewire please follow the instructions below.

Please go to:

Start
Control panel
Add/Remove programs

Find and remove these programs (if they are present)

LimeWire

==========

Run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked
==========

Using Windows Explore by right-clicking the Start button and left clicking. Explore navigate to and find the following folder: if found, delete the following files (some may not be present after previous steps):

C:\Program Files\LimeWire
==========

Now it's time to secure your system against further intrusions. These last steps are crucial to help protect your system.

Continue to use Microsoft AntiSpyware at least weekly to help protect your PC. You may wish to add these other two for added protection
Adaware SE
Spybot S&D
Most of all UPDATE

Use a Firewall CONTINUALLY I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Windows XP firewall is good, but only protects incoming threats. Look for a firewall that blocks both incoming and outgoing information.
ZoneAlarm
Sygate
Outpost

it could be that im not used to a celeron 1.0 processor with 128 meg of ram haha

Well that very well could be the case. I believe 520MB RAM is the minimum for XP. 1.0GHz...well :roll: use it wisely.

If that’s all I can help you with today and you have completed the above items then congratulations, it appears your system is all clean and less susceptible to attack.

Safe Surfing
