Hidden objects found and some strange things happening?

Unread postby MESA » March 18th, 2015, 11:03 am

Hi there.
I would really appreciate some help. When scanning with Avira it found 5 hidden objects.I scanned with malwarebytes too but nothing was found.
There has been some strange things happening like my firewall settings being changed and my mp3 files had their extension changed. Also My computer has started lagging a bit.
I would just like to make sure that there is nothing lurking on my computer.Thank you in advance for your help.

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the Malware Removal forum and wait for help.

Failure to post replies within 3 days will result in this thread being closed.

Hello MESA,

My name is mAL_rEm018, but feel free to call me mAL :). I'm an undergraduate trainee and as such my posts to you have to first be checked by a Teacher, because of this my replies to your posts may be slightly delayed. Please be patient and I'm sure we'll be able to resolve your problems.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

To make sure everything goes smoothly, I would like you to observe the following rules:
  • You must have Administrator rights, permissions for this computer.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start another topic.
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask!
  • DO NOT run any other fix or removal tools unless instructed to do so!
  • Don't attempt to install any new software (other than those I ask you to) until your computer is clean.
  • DO NOT post for help at any other forum. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  • I advise you to print the instructions if possible, since your internet connection might not be available during some of the fixes.
  • Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear, therefore stick with this topic until I give you the "all clear".

I am currently reviewing you logs and will return as soon as possible, with additional instructions. In the meantime I would like you to read and get acquainted with the following topic: HOW TO GET HELP IN THIS FORUM - everyone must read this, where the conditions for receiving help here are explained.

Hello MESA,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.

Backup your registry using TCRB
  • Download TCRB from the following link TCRB
  • Open Tweaking.com Registry Backup.
  • Click on the Backup Registry tab and ensure that all options are checked.
  • Press on Backup Now.
  • Wait until the backup is complete and exit the program.

Next..

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
  • Close all open programs and internet browsers.
  • Right click on adwcleaner.exe and select " Run as administrator " to run it.
  • Click on Scan.
  • When the scan has finished click on Report.
  • A logfile will automatically open after the scan has finished.
  • Close the adwCleaner window.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next reply.
  • You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt as well.

Next

  • Download FRST64 to your Desktop.
  • Double click Frst.exe to launch it.
  • FRST will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press the Scan button.
    • When finished scanning 2 logs will open on your Desktop, FRST.txt and Addition.txt
    • Please post them in your next reply.

-----------------------------------------
In your next reply, I would like to see..
  • Did you have trouble performing any of the steps?
  • Contents of AdwCleaner[R1].txt
  • FRST.txt
  • Addition.txt
Please post everything in the order given.

Hello mAL.Thank you for your reply.
I just wanted to mention that before going any further that I have reverted back to Avast anti virus as I was having some problems with Avira. Before uninstalling it was saying 1 hidden object just but no detections/problems.
I have conducted a boot time scan with avast which found nothing.
Would you still recommend that we continue? Is there anything in the first set of logs that could indicate possible malware?
I just don't want to waste your time if not necessary? There aren't any pop ups or anything "visable" happening.
What do you think?

Hello MESA,

MESA wrote:mAL.In the installed programs list I posted there is something called imagXpress but this isn't shwoing in my programs on my computer.Do you know what it is?It isn't something I have installed?

imagXpress is a legitimate programe by Nero AG. It is used for documents imaging and processing/editing images. If you did not install it on your computer, then my advise to you would be to remove it. If you want to remove this program, then let me know in your next post.

Please answer the following questions:
  • I notice that you host file has been modified. Did you have Spybot or MVPS hosts installed on your computer at some point?
    Hosts: 0.0.0.0 fr.a2dfp.net
    Hosts: 0.0.0.0 m.fr.a2dfp.net
    Hosts: 0.0.0.0 mfr.a2dfp.net
    Hosts: 0.0.0.0 ad.a8.net
    Hosts: 0.0.0.0 asy.a8ww.net

    Please do the following..
    • Click the Star Menu and select Control Panel.
    • Click Programs, then Programs and Features.
    • Select the following programs:
      WinASO Registry Optimizer 4.8.7

Note: you can only remove one program at a time.
    • Select Uninstall.
    • When prompted select Yes.
    • Answer any questions attentively.
    • When the process is finished, please restart your computer.

    Registry Cleaners
I see you had a "Registry Cleaner" installed.
    WinASO Registry Optimizer 4.8.7

All programs of this type are a complete and utter waste of time, and usually cause more problems than they ever resolve. The Registry in Windows is remarkably tolerant of "orphans" and will happily run with thousands of them without any measurable drop in performance. However, remove just one wrong Registry entry, and you can easily end up with problems, upto and including an unbootable machine. "Auto fixing" programs do not have a good record for not making errors.

The gain vs risk equation is not a good one, and I strongly recommend you don't reinstall this program.

If you're up for a read you should find This informative.

Re: Hidden objects found and some strange things happening?

Unread postby MESA » March 25th, 2015, 6:05 am

Hi mAL.I think nero came pre installed on my computer but I uninstalled it as I don't use it.The ImagXpress doesn't show in add/remove programs?
Regarding the host files yes I use MVPS hosts file.
Regarding Winaso I only really use the privacy cleaner and occasionally the reg defrag so if you're ok with it I will leave it installed? If not I will uninstall it.
I'm having dificulty uploading the file to jotti as I can't get to it from the browse location but I can get to it by going to that location directly on my PC and right clicking the file shows it is a malwarbytes corporation file?
When running the Adw cleaner after scan it just hangs and says"waiting for action please uncheck elements you want to keep" but again there are no items showing? What is that needs removed?
Any problems showing?
Thank you for your help.

We can certainly remove it later.

I would prefer if you uninstalled the program for now. Whether you decide to re-install it or not is your choice, I can only advise you against doing so. If you insist on using this program, then you should always make sure you perform a registry backup in case anything bad happens.

If you navigate to the file, you should be able to upload it.

There is no need to uncheck any elements. Re-run the scan as you did before and then select Cleaning.

When navigating to the folder via jotti only a few drivers were showing. What I was able to do was drag the file to my desktop and upload it to jotti from there.(I put the file back in the drivers folder)
When running the scan with Adw cleaner nothing happens. It just hangs? There is nothing to clean because there is nothing to see.It just hangs with the message "waiting for action please uncheck elements you want to keep" but there is nothing at all listed?
Here are the jotti results

Thank you.
