Telephone Solicatation followed by Remote Desktop Take Over

Unread postby Much2Much » October 17th, 2014, 12:56 pm

I'm posting this here because I don't know where else to ask.
A friend called me yesterday about a phone call he received. The telephone solicitor told him his computer was totally corrupted with viruses and directed him to go to his computer, running Windows 7, and entering the combination keys Windows logo + R. Immediately his computer was completely locked to him and another phone call received from the same solicitor told him they would fix his computer for $279. My friend was panicked and actually gave them his credit card number, then realized he needed help. My friend is over 80 and not very computer savvy. I went to his house and found a number of problems with his Malware and anti-virus software but did get him running again.
I'm no expert!
What do we need to do to make sure this can't happen again? I assume these people completely downloaded everything from his computer.

By posting just a description of your problems it is likely that your topic will be passed by and you will not receive the help you're looking for.

We need to know what's running on your computer so we can give you appropriate instructions.

May I draw your attention to THIS topic, which you should have read, and which tells you what we need you to post so that we can help you.
