Hello blondlily57,

Glad to here that TM Housecall did not find any issues.

The Malwarebytes' program I mentioned, that you can keep, is the free version (or at least it should be) ... you don't have to buy it.

I would like you to do some clean up now, for the tools we used.

Step 1.
AdwCleaner - UninstallImage
You should still have AdwCleaner on your Desktop.
  1. Right click on adwcleaner.exe and select "Run as administrator" to run it.
  2. Click on Uninstall.
  3. Select Yes at the prompt.

Step 2.
You can delete:
Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) from your desktop.
- Any reports from the JRT scans.
TDSSKiller from your desktop.
- Any reports left from the TDSSKiller scan
TM Housecall from your desktop
- Any scan resports or logs left from TM Housecall.

Any reports left from AdwCleaner C:\AdwCleaner[Rn].txt or C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt, where (n) is a number.)

Once the cleanup is done, let me know and I'll provide some final safety instructions.

Thanks,
Wingman

Looking forward to the final safety instructions. thanks Wingman

TCRB

Hello blondlily57,

Yes you can leave Tweaking.com Registry backup... this can be set to create a backup once a day, each time the computer is started or you can just leave it and create a backup when making changes to your computer.

I and many others use the free version of Malwarebytes' Antimalware... it is up to you which you decide to use. If you want the Pro version, then you'll have to buy it.
If you want to continue to use the free version, leave it installed and update/run it weekly.

Many people simply use the built-in anti-virus product (Defender) that came with Windows 8. On my Windows 8 computer I use Windows Defender, Malwarebytes' Antimalware (free version) and WinPatrol... that's it and haven't had any problems with infections. Just remember that no anti-virus product is going to find and remove everything, so if you want to change your antivirus product, you would have to disable Defender, before installing any other Anti-virus product. Having more than one Anti-virus product running at the same time can cause system instability or even crashes.

Again the McAfee product you have is NOT an antivirus product, it offers NO protection. It simply can be used to scan your computer to see what security products you have installed and what their status is (ex: updated, disabled, etc). Do not confuse this product with McAfee antivirus product they are 2 entirely different items.

Some final steps... and some reading for you. As always don't hesitate to ask, if you have questions.

Create a System Restore Point - W8
  1. Click the Start button Image, then right-click on Computer, then click Properties.
  2. In the left pane, click System protection. If UAC prompts, allow it.
  3. Click the System Protection tab... then click Create.
  4. In the System Protection dialog box, type a description... then click Create.
A Restore Point will be created and you should receive a message: "The restore point was created successfully."
  5. Click Close and exit.
< STOP > If you did not successfully complete this step. < STOP > Do not continue with any other steps, post back and let me know!

Here are a few you can look into, if you want. :)

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
You have this installed already, run scans weekly (at least)... make sure you check for updates before running scans.
Download it from Malewarebytes © Malwarebytes Corporation.

Powerful, easy to use and free. For real-time protection you will have to purchase the product.

WinPatrol
Do not install if you have installed Spybot Search & Destroy and enabled Teatimer protection. System conflicts can occur.
Download it from Copyright © BillP Studios

(The free version of WinPatrol... provides limited real-time protection)
