Hello asthenia and welcome,

You have an email worm on your PC which opens a backdoor and may recieve commands from an IRC server evidenced in your log by this:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winupdt] RUNDLL32.EXE c:\windows\ustwain.dll,_mainRD
http://www.viruslist.com/en/viruses/enc ... usid=57406

You have a variant of the RBOt family on your computer evidenced by this:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Win32 NDIS Driver] xpndis.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Win32 NDIS Driver] xpndis.exe

http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/viru ... x?id=39437

Rbot's main function is to act as an IRC controlled backdoor. It attempts to connect to a predefined IRC server and join a specific channel so that the victim's computer can be controlled. The IRC server, port number, channel and password differ with each variant.

Rbot also listens on TCP port 113 to provide ident services, which are required by some IRC servers.

Once the victim's computer is under control, the overseer is able to instruct Win32.Rbot to attempt to perform malicious operations such as spreading via administrative shares with weak passwords or the DCOM RPC exploit. The backdoor can also be instructed to:

download and execute files from the Internet
retrieve system information such as Operating System details
retrieve CD keys for certain computer games, if present
start a SOCKS proxy
perform denial of service (DoS) attacks
start several other servers: rlogin, http, tftp. The ports used for these are configurable.
log keystrokes
capture video from a webcam, if present
send e-mail

You are strongly advised to do the following immediately:

1. Disconnect the infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.

2. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

3. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

and what ever else seems appropriate.

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [slvchost] slvchost32.exe

Unidentified Trojan

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Computer.
  3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  4. Select the View Tab.
  5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  7. Click Yes to confirm.
  8. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  9. Click OK.
Use the Start > Search function. Make sure that Local Disk (C) is listed in the dropdrown box - if not, click the arrow and select it.
Click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options.
  • Click to select the Search system folders and Search hidden files and folders check boxes.
  • Make sure that the Subfolders are checked too.
Type slvchost32.exe in the search box and click the Search button. Write down the location. Probably c:\windows\ or c:\windows\system32

Submit the file <Foldername you did write down>\slvchost32.exe to Jotti's scanner at:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/ Post the results here in the next reply.

We can likely clean the infected files off computer but we cannot be sure that the files involved didn't do anything to your system to reduce overall system security.
You could be vulnerable to another attack as soon as you connect to net again.

Please analyse the file at Jotti's and post results. In meanwhile I'll work on a fix. Stay away from p2p applications until your PC is clean.

Hello asthenia,

one thing, when i did the search for slvchost32.exe, the scan found nothing.. i tried several times and made sure it scanned the ENTIRE computer.. why is that?

The file might have been deleted by a antivirus application or a previous scan. I'm looking up your logs now and will post a fix later on. Limit Internet access for now please.

Hello asthenia,

Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

I saw that System Restore is disabled. You might have a good reason for this, but I would prefer we turn it on just in case something goes wrong. A bad restore point is better than nothing. You can turn it off again when the computer is clean if you wish.

Click Start then Run
Type in services.msc
Click Ok

Scroll down and double click on the service called System Restore Service
Click Stop and then set the Startup Type to Automatic.
Click the start button to start the service.

Turn System Restore back on
  1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the System Restore tab.
  3. Clear the Turn off System Restore check box (or the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box), and then click OK.
A new restore point will be created automatically.

Repeat this until the VX2 Cleaner reports System clean. Press Close to exit.

Run Ad-Aware one more time and perform a Perform Full System Scan of your computer to make sure VX2 has been found and removed. Reboot in Normal Mode

I will start to look up your logs now.
hi kim, i've done exactly as you instructed, and have all of the results. however i seem to have somehow misplaced the simRem results, but as soon as i find them i will post them for you.

They should be located in the C:\ folder - c:\smitfiles.txt -
My computer > local disk (C)

Otherwise :
Use the Start > Search function. Make sure that Local Disk (C) is listed in the dropdrown box - if not, click the arrow and select it.
Click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options.
  • Click to select the Search system folders and Search hidden files and folders check boxes.
  • Make sure that the Subfolders are checked too.
Type smitfiles.txt in the search box and click the Search button. Open with notepad if found.

Hello asthenia,

The Winpfind log did show a serious problem with the registry tools & remote admin page. This has to be fixed first. The second smitfiles log isn't of any use unfortunately, it did erase the original one.

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. Make sure that wordwrap is turned of.
@Echo off
cd %systemdrive%\
echo REGEDIT4 >> fixme.reg
echo. >> fixme.reg
echo [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\System] >> fixme.reg
echo "DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000 >> fixme.reg
echo "NoAdminPage"=dword:00000000 >> fixme.reg
echo. >> fixme.reg
echo [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Win32 NDIS Driver] >> fixme.reg
echo. >> fixme.reg
echo [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\ShellBrowser] >> fixme.reg
echo "{42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6}"=- >> fixme.reg
echo. >> fixme.reg
echo [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings] >> fixme.reg
echo "EnableAutodial"=dword:00000000 >> fixme.reg
echo. >> fixme.reg

reg import %systemdrive%\fixme.reg
del fixme.reg

echo Please restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
echo.

pause
exit

Save it to your desktop as fixme.bat. Save it as:
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: fixme.bat

Locate Fixme.bat on your desktop and double-click it. Reboot the PC.

Warez P2P comes bundled with spyware and / or other parasites. I recommend that you uninstall this program.
http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/

If you don't remove this program, there are entries that we can't clean up in the Kaspersky Scan.

Click on Start, Control Panel, click on Add/Remove Programs
Look through the installed programs for the following items and remove them if present:

Warez P2P
Hyperbar

During the uninstall process, you might be presented with several prompts to guide you through uninstalling the product. Read these carefully to make sure you are actually choosing to uninstall rather than keep the software.

Using Windows Explorer, Search and Delete these Files if listed:

C:\Documents and Settings\Neil\Desktop\My Shared Folder\Software\WarezP2P.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Installer\b84806.msi

If you get an error when deleting a file, right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is uncheck it and try again.

Run HijackThis, click on Open the Misc Tools Section and finally click on the ADS Spy button. Press the Scan button and the program will start to scan your Windows folder for any files that are Alternate Data Streams. If it finds any, it will display them. Place a checkmark next to its entry and click on the Remove selected button. This will remove the ADS file from your computer. When you are done, press the Back button next to the Remove selected until you are at the main HijackThis screen.

Copy/paste the following quote box into a new notepad (not wordpad) document.

regedit /e %systemdrive%\regkey.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler"
notepad %systemdrive%\regkey.txt
del /q %systemdrive%\regkey.txt

Save it to your Desktop as regkey.bat. Save it as:
File Type: All Files (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name:regkey.bat

Locate regkey.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. When notepad opens, copy/paste the content in your reply. When you close Notepad the CMD window will close automatically and the text file will be deleted.

Open the C:\WinPFind folder and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
Click on Configure Scan Options.
Remove all the checkmarks under Folder Options on the left side by clicking the button Remove All, uncheck Run Addon's and click Apply.
Click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish.

Please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log file named C:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt. Please copy that log into your next reply.
