If you're used to Trend Micro, then I would suggest that that's the AV you should stick with. There's a lot to be said for staying with a product that you know, and that you have faith in.
All I said before, was that the version of Windows Defender that comes with Windows 7, is not the same as versions that shipped with earlier versions of Windows. It's now a fully blown Anti-Virus program. Actually it's more or less a copy of Microsoft Security Essentials, that was a separate download for Vista and Windows 7. Why Microsoft chose to name it Windows Defender I couldn't say, because lots of people associate that name with a program that never really did a good job of defending anything.
If you're going to install Trend Micro, then you'll need to disable Windows Defender otherwise they'll clash. Usually the installer for any 3rd party Anti-Virus will do that for you, but if you have any problems with your computer after you install Trend Micro (and I'm not saying you will), then the first thing you should check, is that Windows Defender is disabled.
