You're welcome. :)

The following forums all deal with "general computer problems" for Windows 8 .....

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/209/windows-8/

http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/forum/188-windows-8/

http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showforum=119

http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f320/

..... they're in no order of preference, and the standard of help given at each is usually of a high standard.

If anyone asks you if your computer has been checked for Malware, please feel free to refer them to this topic.

You're welcome :), glad to hear your icons are now working.

If you're used to Trend Micro, then I would suggest that that's the AV you should stick with. There's a lot to be said for staying with a product that you know, and that you have faith in.

All I said before, was that the version of Windows Defender that comes with Windows 7, is not the same as versions that shipped with earlier versions of Windows. It's now a fully blown Anti-Virus program. Actually it's more or less a copy of Microsoft Security Essentials, that was a separate download for Vista and Windows 7. Why Microsoft chose to name it Windows Defender I couldn't say, because lots of people associate that name with a program that never really did a good job of defending anything.

If you're going to install Trend Micro, then you'll need to disable Windows Defender otherwise they'll clash. Usually the installer for any 3rd party Anti-Virus will do that for you, but if you have any problems with your computer after you install Trend Micro (and I'm not saying you will), then the first thing you should check, is that Windows Defender is disabled. To do that see .... http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21 ... s-8-a.html

As your problems now appear to have been resolved, this topic is now closed.
