Computer not Recognizing Disk Drive

Unread postby punkpal » March 20th, 2013, 6:40 pm

Today I decided to burn a cd for a friend and couldn't do it in itunes (itunes said 'software or burner missing'). I then went to Windows Media Player and tried it from there, it could not detect any blank discs. Then I tried to listen to a regular cd and tried a few after that but my computer couldn't seem to detect that I have a cd drive.

When I press the button the disc tray opens. In device manager it is listed under 'disk drives' > 'Hitachi HTS727550A9E364 SATA Disk Device'. I tried to update and it said it was up to date and working properly. I then uninstalled the driver and restarted, Windows detected it automatically and re-installed it. The CD drive is still not working and it is not listed under 'My Computer' along with my C: and D: drives. It is not detecting any music CD I put in. I also 'checked for hardware changes' in Device Manager. Under the device in 'properties'> 'details' there is no error message and it says the device is working properly!

I apologize if this is not a malware problem, but I am not sure what this is and why this is happening. I have burned and ripped CDs before, watched DVDs and have had no problems. Please help if you can. :(

It seems to not have worked. :(

It says it cannot detect cd/dvd drive.
Like I said the device shows in device manager and that it is working properly. I'm very confused :(

Re: Computer not Recognizing Disk Drive

Unread postby punkpal » March 21st, 2013, 2:55 pm

Ok, now melboy I'm really confused. I went into 'my computer' just now after these scans and my disk drive was listed under 'removable devices': DVD RW Drive E:
Yesterday when I did the Fixit scan it said it couldn't detect a disk drive.
I inserted a disc and itunes recognized it immediately.
I tried to burn my CD just now and it worked!

But, my question is why did this happen? Is it a bigger problem? :?

Hi

Everything looks fine. The cdrom driver failed to load - it was probably only a temporary glitch.

Any further problems? :)
