Virus: My Security Shield

Unread postby Shaun83 » July 17th, 2012, 8:35 pm

Hi,
I got a virus yesterday while on the internet. My computer began popping up security warnings from something called "My Security Shield". I do run AVG and Zonealarm and both are up to date but it went right through. I did not download anything when I acquired the virus. I did a google search to try and find what is was and get rid of it. A couple of google links went to unexpected places and I didn't realize the virus was redirecting me. I did get to one site and that I thought was giving instructions to get rid of this particular virus. It seemed to work, but then I started getting notifications from AVG saying it had discovered a trojan and the only option AVG was giving me was "ignore". This is when I realized that the virus was redirecting my google search and might have sent me to the site that I was seeking help from and made things worse. I tried to go into the folder that AVG said the trojan was in, but I could not find the folder (my settings are to show all folders). I did run AVG in safe mode. I did not get a report at the end of the scan in safe mode so I don't know if that helped or not. I have not seen any notifications regarding the trojan since that time, so I might be free. I would very much appreciate it if someone here could check my logs and give me your input. I am going to post the link to the site where I got the removal instructions before I post my DDS logs.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Shaun

Hello, I Am Alander :)

I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems.

DDS logs can take a while to research so please be patient while I work on your log and I will post back here with any recommendations.

As I am still training, everything that I post to you, must be checked by an Admin or Moderator.

Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts. While it shouldn't be too long, you can be assured you will get the best possible advice.

  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.

Hi, is this machine used for any kind of business activities? I need to know to give the appropriate instructions.
Please also tell me what you use JUNIPER networks for and how you obtain Microsoft Office Professional Plus

Step 1
Remove P2P Programs

  • I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

    FrostWire 5.2.11

  • Please read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.
  • Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

  • Click on Start > All programs > Accessories > Run.
  • In the open text box copy/paste appwiz.cpl Then click Ok.
  • Uninstall the programs listed above (in red) and any other P2P you have installed NOW.
  • Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Step 2
CKScanner
Please download CKScanner ... Save it to your desktop.
This program should only be run once!
Make sure that CKScanner.exe is on the your desktop before running the application!

  1. Right Click on CKScanner.exe and select Run as Administrator... then click the Search For Files button.
  2. When the scan is finished (the cursor hourglass disappears) click the Save List To File button.
A text file will be created on your desktop named "ckfiles.txt"
  3. Click OK at the file saved message box. Double-click on the ckfiles.txt icon on your desktop.
  4. Please copy/paste the contents of ckfiles.txt in your next reply.

Step 3
Please download MGA Diagnostic Tool and save it to your Desktop.

  • Right click on MGADiag.exe and select Run As Administrator to run it.
  • Click Continue.
  • The program will run. It takes a while to finish the diagnosis, please be patient.
  • Once done, click on Copy.
  • Open Notepad and paste the contents in the window.
  • Save this file and copy/paste it in your next reply.

Step 4.
Please include in your next reply:
  1. Any problem executing the instructions?
  2. CKScanner Log
  3. MGA Diagnostic log
Thanks

"is this machine used for any kind of business activities?" No. I can log in to my work computer and work remotely through my computer at work if that counts. I have not done that this log on in several weeks. I have no business of my own I use it for and I own the computer.

"Please also tell me what you use JUNIPER networks for" I think Juniper is the program we use to connect to work.

" how you obtain Microsoft Office Professional Plus." Work. Microsoft offered it as a partner thing when it 1st came out. Great deal. :D

1. Yes. I had to do the uninstall of frostwire 3 times. 1st time AVG found an virus and said it was successful in moving it to the vault. I took a screen shot and I'm going to try and attach it here. 2nd time it found a virus again and I thought it was the same one so I did not take a screen shot, but again AVG said the Vault move was successful. I tried a 3rd time and the computer said the program was gone and asked if I wanted to remove the name from the list.

2. CKScanner - Additional Security Risks - These are not necessarily bad
scanner sequence 3.MN.11.TAAPVL
----- EOF -----
3. Sorry, I'm not 100% sure what you want me to post here because there were several taps. I would think the 1st one, but this seems to contain personal info on my computer that I should not post on a public forum - such as my product key. I realize it is only partial, but it is most of it. I will post this if that is what you want, but I want to verify 1st. I do trust that if you tell me to do it then it is safe, I just don't want to do something I shouldn't.

Thanks,
Shaun

I don't think the screenshot uploaded. I don't even know if it would help, but I'm trying again.
