Vista Security 2012 virus

A few days a ago I got a virus that calls itself "Vista Security 2012". First kept poping windows asking me to go to a website and pay a certain amopunt in order to remove it and would not allow me to open up any programs. Now, 3 days later I have lost all icons on my computer dasktop. Can you please help me?
