Win32 malware i think?

Unread postby crajiazn84 » October 2nd, 2011, 9:01 pm

I've run Spybot search and destroy mostly tells me i'm clean but every once in awhile i grab a
win32: Malware-gen
used avast normally on windows 7 puts in chest and deletes but keeps coming back.

also tried ccleaner and smitfraudfix. Smitfraudfix ends up causing my screen to black out in the middle of the process with the actually running window disappearing all together.
Tried everything multiple times in normal windows 7 mode and in safe mode.

The worst problem is when i run normal windows. The "Local" folders is open for some reason. And in general after the first 3-5 minutes my windows just stops working. Any program or folder i try to open after that small time gap won't open up or show up on my screen. Anything i've opened up in that small time window opens up fine. Also when I try to go into the task manager and the cntrol alt delete combo for the log on page I can do it in the time window but afterwards my screen will go black and then a pop up will come back up saying I cant enter the log on page and to press escape and I come back to windows. By which point everything is just frozen.
Also another weird thing is "\" symbol no longer works in any cmd window. it looks like a weird Y with 2 horizontal lines one under the other right on the center of the Y.

This is what SmithfraudFix gave me when I chose option 1. Search.

Re: Win32 malware i think?

Unread postby Wingman » October 5th, 2011, 10:35 am

Hello... Welcome to the forum.
My name is Wingman, and I'll be helping you with any malware problems.
The logs I request can take a while to research, so please be patient.

Before we begin...please read and follow these important guidelines, so things will proceed smoothly.
  1. The instructions being given are for YOUR computer and system only!
Using these instructions on a different computer can cause damage to that computer and possibly render it inoperable!
  2. You must have Administrator rights, permissions for this computer.
  3. DO NOT run any other fix or removal tools unless instructed to do so or install any other software (or hardware) during the cleaning process.
  4. Only- post your problem at (1) one help site. Applying fixes from multiple help sites can cause problems.
  5. Print each set of instructions...if possible...your Internet connection will not be available during some fix processes.
  6. Only- reply to this thread, do not start another ... Please, continue responding, until I give you the "All Clean"
  7. Failure to respond for 3 days, will result in your topic being closed.

Please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

WARNING!
The steps presented in these posts are for this person and machine ONLY. Do not apply these steps to your own system, without the guidance of a trained malware removal helper. Doing so, may possibly damage your system, preventing it from starting.

Please do not make any changes to your system: do not add or remove any software, run any scans or "fix" programs and/or remove any files unless instructed to do so, by me. Please read these instructions carefully before executing and then perform the steps, in the order given. If you have any questions or problems, executing these instructions, <<STOP>> do not proceed, post back with the question or problem.

SmitfraudFix does not appear to have been updated since 2009 and is not meant to run on a Windows 7 64bit system. Running certain tools without the guidance of a malware removal expert can cause damage to your computer.

Step 1.
Create a System Restore Point - W7
  1. Go to Start > Control Panel... click the System icon in the Control Panel.
  2. In the left pane click on System Protection.
  3. When the Dialog comes up, click on theSystem protection tab.
  4. Check that the drive letter where Windows is located (usually C:) indicates System protection ON.
(This indicates System restore is turned ON for the Windows drive).
  5. Click the Create button to create a new restore point. In the Name dialog, type a descriptive name... then click Create.
  6. You will get a message that the Restore Point was created successfully. Click Close.
  7. Click OK and close the System window in the Control Panel.
< STOP > If you did not successfully complete this step. < STOP > Do not continue with any other steps, post back and let me know!

Step 2.
DDS Scan
  1. Please download DDS ... by sUBs. Save it to your desktop. Alternate download links here or here.
Disable any script blocking software you have running before running DDS.
  2. Please double click dds.com to run the tool. (File name will be different if alternate download used).
Vista - W7 users: You must right click on the file above and select "Run As Administrator" to run the tool.
A black window will open with some instructions/comments...
  3. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    • DDS.txt
    • Attach.txt
Caution: The above logs will NOT be saved... you must save them to your desktop.
  4. Please post both the DDS.txt and Attach.txt files in your next reply.

Step 3.
Please include in your next reply:
  1. Any problem executing the instructions?

A quick question before I proceed.
Does it matter if i go through all of what you asked Steps 1-3 in Safe Mode or
Must I start windows 7 normally?
If i start windows normally, i get pop ups and my computer slows down way too much.

If using normal boot mode prohibits you from downloading and running the DDS program, you can boot to Safe Mode with Network... in order to download the DDS program and run it... However, if you can run in "Normal" mode to perform the tasks I would prefer that, as it allows me to see those items that will not be running in Safe Mode.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
