Virus / Malware HELP

I got a nasty little thing on my laptop. I don't know how, because I don't go to a lot of websites on it, and never anyplace questionable.

I have been working on the problem for the last week and a half. Done several different virus/malware scans.

It's running better but it has still got something on there. Google searches will be hijacked to ad sites, and AVG no longer opens at startup and when I open AVG it says that the Database can't ve verified, even though I updated and ran it yesterday.

In your previous topic that was just closed, you stated that this machine is a laptop you use at work. Therefore, that topic was closed with the following explanation:
