Windows 7 Freezes on Sony VAIO

Unread postby everlong » June 28th, 2011, 10:46 pm

Hi, I really hope you can help me out because Sony support sure can't. I was unable to upload my HijackThis log file but was able to, obviously, attach the uninstall file. I have a Sony VAIO desktop, and I am unsure if I should post the model number so I won't for now.

I have had the PC for about a year now and one day Windows 7 Home Premium just started freezing up on me. The browser freezes, which by the way I use Firefox 5 not IE 8 as is listed below, and dialog boxes freeze, as well as download boxes and program boxes. Basically, anything that I open will end up freezing. I hit Ctl+Alt+Del and then just click cancel and it unfreezes, but it happens every 5 minutes, literally.

Recently, I bought a program called WiseFixer and ran it and I somehow lost all of my administrator rights on everything. I tried for days to take ownership of everything but, of course, just made things worse. Sony support was not an option because all they have ever told me to do is run a system restore or recovery. Well, I finally had to do just that. I backed up what I wanted to save to an external hard drive and performed a system recovery to the C drive, which is what Sony support said to do. Well, the computer ran better but it still kept freezing. I also downloaded what was called a 90 day survey patch from Sony, which was supposed to correct the problem, but it didn't. I did this, by the way, about two days ago.

I have AVG PC Tuneup 2011 and I ran a registry scan. Normally I would just click "repair all" but this time I started highlighting some of the files it had found and was checking them on google, and that is what led me here. One scanned file, that was named HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\.blogthis\Content Type, for some reason caught my attention and I didn't stop searches on it until I landed here.

So, that is basically it. I can't figure out how this could just start happening, and it is happening to a lot of people I have found, and Sony is saying to take it in for maintenance. It seems to me that if they know there is a systemic problem and they say that they can fix it, that they should just tell their techs how to tell us how to do it. My guess is that it is something that, if it were happening to a car, they would put out a recall. I really hope that it is some sort of Malware and that you are able to help me with it. I'm actually still under warranty because I bought an extended one, but I would really rather fix it myself, or rather get some help in doing so.

Sorry for rambling, it's one of my faults. Oh, I must tell you that before I found this forum I actually did tell HijackThis to repair the file that I just described above. The results posted below are from the second scan I ran. I read where you say not to let it fix anything but I honestly did it before I found this forum.

Thanks for being here even if you can't help me.
