Suffering with Redirect5 Malware. Need Help Logs attached

Unread postby misc1608 » August 4th, 2010, 2:05 am

Hi,
I originally posted around July 23 but did not get a response for more then 3 days and my topic was closed. Here is my info again.
This is my first issue with a serious malware item and i am frustrated after a whole day trying to get rid of it. I hope you can help me on this. Here is some info i hope helps. My HDD is new after a physical crash and was newly loaded with the MS Vista OS 3 weeks ago and i spent 4 days adding/removing software to get it back in order. Somewhere around mid to late July i started to get the redirect5 response when clicking on Google search results.

1. All my Google.Com searches as well a Yahoo/Other search engines URL's redirect me to other sites until the 2nd or 3rd click on the same URL.
2. My Laptop slows down to a crawl sometimes with the HDD light on almost solid and CPU utilization up to 50% yet no apps are running and other times not.
3. If i use the browser alot sometimes the system will virtually stop running and i will get (not responding) on some of the windows title bar. The circular replacement for the hourglass will spin slower and slower. After letting the laptop sit for a few minutes i might get a response. One example was having about 4 web sites opened in IE 7 and doing some searches and the system will slow to a crawl. The only other app opened was Notepad and it would not respond for many minutes and in one case while it was not responding i had tried to do a FILE > SAVE and got (not responding) and then a second instance showed on the bottom toolbar.
4. The DNS IP in the TCP/IP config setup will be set to 2 IP's at UKRTELE???.COM.UA
i did remove these but they tend to comeback.
5. I seem to be hit more by the redirect5 when i am on my home network and less so if at all on other wireless networks
6. i have downloaded COMBOFIX.EXE from bleepingcomputer.com but it did not do the things the the steps indicate it should do starting with a DOS window starting etc etc. Instead it quickly flashes a timer bar in the center of the screen for about 2 seconds and that is all. This happened many times but i finally click on it and it ran and produced a LOG which i have not included until/unless you request it.
6.I have Norton 360 which i have disabled as requested by the COMBOFIX procedures before i ran it and have not turned it back on.
7. I downloaded Stopzilla and ran it and it found 18 items of which 2 were Hijack items. I did not buy the software to run the removal as i have seen on other forums that it did not resolve this issue. I have since removed the software without purchaseing it
8 i downloaded and ran Frontline Registry Cleaner but after running it to see what it displayed i did not purchase the software as i felt it would have little or no effect on this issue and have since removed it
9. I am not sure what caused the problem to start. But it has been extremely painful and slow but did appear to improve slightly after running combofix.exe

Finally i have downloaded HijackThis.Exe and RSIT.exe as indicated on this forum and ran them
again tonight with the logs pasted below
I hope u can help me clean this up as i am pulling my hair out.
Thanks Brian

Hi misc1608,
I don't know whether I will be able to help you or not.
You have run a lot of tools on this machine and I have no way of knowing what changes those tools made.

I have a few questions right away.
  • From where did you get the copy of Vista that you installed on this machine?
  • Has it been validated by Microsoft?

The first thing you need to do is locate the User guide for your Home Wireless Router. Download it online if you can't find it.
Then you need to Re-Install the settings for your Internet Provider just as you did when you first bought it.
Then, you need to change the router's administrator password to something other than the default value.

They actually publish the list of the original, default passwords for each router on the Internet.
You can look it up for your make and model.
Router Passwords Default List : http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html

If you don't change it, a ZLOB or other infection can use the default password and change your router settings, so as to intercept every communication by passing it through a spyware server.
It will definitely produce redirects, and then deliver spyware to your machine(s).
The router will have to be re-installed so any malware server addresses can be removed. (Then you can change the Router admin password)
If you can find the instructions that came with the router, it may save a bit of work.

If you have the ability to do that, please do it, and answer my questions above about Vista.
If you need help with the router, I can provide some limited guidance.

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
