Hi.
You were able to run this scan last time so try it again.
Be sure to disable winpatrol and you're AV first.

ESET online scannner

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

  • Hold down Control then click on the following link to open a new window to ESET online scannner
  • Then click on: Image
Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then double click on it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.
  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: Image
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is NOT checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: Image
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: Image
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.

seems to be doing better now... It still running slow. Could that be because I got avast, system shield (which came with my system mechanic) and winpatrol running?? Do you think I got to much virus protection going on?? LOL. I am so scared of getting something else on it. also would you happen to know why IE wont allow me to update to the new version 8? I have tried and tried and can not get it to do it. And do I need to do another restore point now? Cause it wouldnt allow me to use to the last one, guess its cause I had those other few maleware on it, but it wouldnt restore back to the last one you helped me create, course I might have not done it right to, dont know. Any advice you got that I need to do, I will do cause your the greatest with this, it simply amazes me how quickly you know how to fix whatever is wrong! Genius!! Again, thanks so much for all your help... your my savior!

Avast and Winpatrol are fine to run togather but one reson for the slowness could be this.

Total RAM: 511 MB (34% free)
Though Microsoft claims XP will run with a 512 MB of system memory installed in my opinion a minimum of 2 GB is far better.

If you wish to upgrade the installed memory in your system, Crucial have a small scanner (CrucialScan.exe) which is perfectly safe to download and run Which will advise if your system can support any upgraded memory modules. They cater for the US/UK and Europe.
And do I need to do another restore point now?

Yes i will have yo set a new restore point before letting you go.
also would you happen to know why IE wont allow me to update to the new version 8

The problems you are still experiencing with IE are not coming from malware as all of your latest logs have come back clean.
As this is a dedicated Malware Removal site I think those issues are best left to experts elsewhere..
Here are some excellent Tech sites (in no particular order) that may be able to help with this problem:

So as I said above your logs are clean, I hope you can resolve your other problem with the links that I provided.

Any other questions before i give you final instructions?

Hi wendy.
Ok complete the following then you're good to go.
Hope to see you in the uni sometime soon :)

OTC

Download OTC by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop. This tool will remove all the tools we used to clean your pc.

  • Double-click OTC.exe
  • Click the CleanUp! button
  • Select Yes when the Begin cleanup Process? Prompt appears
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.

You can now delete any tools we used if they remain on your Desktop.

Next.

Create a new, clean System Restore point

  • Create a new, clean System Restore point which you can use in case of future system problems:
  • Press Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >>System Tools >> System Restore
  • Select Create a restore point, then Next, type a name like All Clean then press the Create button and once it's done press Close
  • Now remove old, infected System Restore points:
  • Next click Start >> Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
  • Ensure the boxes for Recycle Bin, Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
  • Select the More Options tab, under System Restore press Clean up... and say Yes to the prompt
  • Press OK and Yes to confirm

I would be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.

Safe surfing!
