Cleaning up Win Vista viruses & trojan: Performance affected

Unread postby alainsaad » June 8th, 2010, 3:51 pm

I am having a problem with my Windows Vista which I didnt have before. Its because of viruses or trojans or cookies most probably (after scanning using NoAdware I always find same trojans : SEARCHFAST and 180SEARCHASSISTANT)

After NoAdware captures the above trojans, and once I delete them and restart my pc, they appear back upon restart. The problem appeared recently and it has affected the User Parental Control, for instance when double clicking on an installation file, before it prompts the warning message if I want to allow or disallow this installation file, i get a blackscreen of abt 4 to 5 secs, which is not normal..(slowing down performance apparently)

I will be posting HiJackThis log and will be glad to follow instructions from you experts. Awaiting your recommendation. NB: I have Kasperskey Internet Security 2010 with an authentic license

Hi alainsaad,

Welcome to the forum.

My nickname is deltalima and I will be helping you with your computer problems.

The logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Please note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If after 3 days you have not responded to this topic, it will be closed, and you will need to start a new one.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please Note:
The programs I ask you to run need to be run in Administrator Mode by... Right clicking the program file and selecting: Run as Administrator.
Additionally, the built-in User Account Control (UAC) utility, if enabled, may prompt you for permission to run the program.
When prompted, please select: Allow. Reference: User Account Control (UAC) and Running as Administrator

Uninstall List
  • Open HijackThis.
  • Look under System tools.
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  • Click on the Save list... button.
  • It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  • Notepad will open. Please copy and paste the contents of this log in your next reply.

The HijackThis log that you posted shows the date as Scan saved at 1:50:32 AM, on 25-Aug-09 please ensure that the system clock is set to the correct time and run a new HijackThis scan and post the log in your next reply.

Hi alainsaad,

Remove P2P Programs

  • I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

    LimeWire 5.5.8
    eMule

  • Please read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.
  • Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

  • Click on start
  • Then Run
  • In the open text entry box please copy/paste appwiz.cpl Then click enter.
  • Press the "Remove" or "Change/Remove"...button to uninstall the programs listed above (in red) and any other P2P you have installed NOW.
  • Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

CKScanner

  • Please download CKScanner from here to your Desktop.
Make sure that CKScanner.exe is on the your Desktop before running the application!
  • Right click on CKScanner.exe and select Run as Administrator
  • click Search For Files.
  • After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
  • A message box will verify the file saved
  • Double-click on the CKFiles.txt icon on your Desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.

Please copy and paste the section of the NoAdware log that shows detection of SEARCHFAST and 180SEARCHASSISTANT into your next post.

CKScanner logs below:

CKScanner - Additional Security Risks - These are not necessarily bad
scanner sequence 3.MN.11
----- EOF -----

I will post to you the log of No Adware in few hours..as scanning is still in process..however, for the meantime, just to keep you posted the 180search assistant description of noadware seems to say it is not a serious privacy threat but their applications may deliver popup advertizements. as for SearchFast, it says that it Updates itself to keep the PC infected with adware/spyware.

Thanks for your patience

I was unable to retrieve a log file from NoAdware. eventhough it captured the same spywares/adwares for SearchAssistant and 180Search, however no logs was saved after scanning complete. I've tried even to chcek the Save scan automatically flag from the Settings of No Adware. Didn't work.

If you want, I can print a screenshot of the spywares found.

deltalima, I have traveled and my laptop is no longer with me now. I won't be back until the 22nd of june. I know usually you close the topic after 3 days. But in case you can't make it as an exception, assuming I will have to re-post my post again in the main topic, would it be possible to simply post the link of this post and mention your name or something so that you can continue the support process from where we reached? Appreciate your understanding and sorry for the complication.

Thanks

Taking into account the situation it would be best upon your return and also having the time to see a malware removal process through too completion.................To actually open a new thread in the Malware Removal forum, include a fresh HijackThis log, and wait for a new helper.

This topic is now closed.
