ohtgnoenriga redirects, reformat problems

Unread postby nzlk » May 23rd, 2010, 1:20 am

Hello,
My Google search results have been periodically hijacked by ohtgnoenriga.com, which leads me to sites like btcar.com, etc. As deleting the browsing history files would stop it temporarily, I wasn't too concerned about it until I googled 'ohtgnoenriga' and found viewtopic.php?f=12&t=50919&start=15 this thread where it turned out there was a backdoor trojan. Running antivirus scans with avg9 and malwarebytes antimalware crashes the computer so I unplugged the internet and scanned, but they don't detect anything. Figuring it was time for a reformat and reinstall anyway, I proceeded to get my windows xp disc which is when more problems came up. Rebooting with the cd in the drive doesn't make the 'press any key to enter setup' pop up unless I boot up in safe mode, insert the cd, then restart. After doing that and it boots from the cd, I proceed with reformatting and reinstalling, but as soon as I reach the formatting step, the computer crashes. Next I tried using the windows recovery console thing, but typing 'format C: /fs:ntfs' also crashes the computer instantly. Basically I need assistance in stopping this trojan from crashing my computer whenever I try to reformat or alternatively, some way to force the computer to reformat without crashing so I can reinstall.
Other information: I've disconnected the computer from the internet and am using another computer to seek help here, transferring the logs with a usb. I've also already backed up data I want to keep, so feel free to attempt radical cleaning processes. The crashes I experience either involve the screen freezing and becoming unresponsive while the computer stays on, or the screen distorts.

Hi nzlk,
It actually looks to me that, although there may be infections present, you are likely to have a hardware problem, i.e. a graphics card or hard drive failure.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Check Hard Disk For Errors
Press Start->Run, then type or copy/paste the following command into the box and press OK:
Code: Select all
cmd /c chkdsk c: |find /v "percent" >> "%userprofile%\desktop\checkhd.txt"
A blank command window will open on your desktop, then close in a few minutes. This is normal.
A file and icon named checkhd.txt should appear on your Desktop. Please have a look at the contents of this file.
You can post it if you wish me to look at it.

If it shows any "bad sectors", or if it "cannot continue in read-only mode", run this next sequence:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Hard Disk Repair
IF Chkdsk has found any errors having to do with bad sectors in your file system, or if it reports that it cannot continue in Read-Only Mode, it needs to run a different sequence on reboot to do repairs. It can't repair the file system while Windows is running.
DO NOT START THIS SEQUENCE UNLESS YOU CAN DO WITHOUT THE MACHINE FOR AN HOUR OR TWO. It may not take very long , but could, depending on the number of files and folders.
It will not relinquish control until it is done. You cannot stop it, and it would be a BIG mistake to pull the plug.

If it's present on your Desktop, please delete your original file Checkhd.txt
Go To Start, Run and type cmd
hit <Enter>
Type this black text into the command window at the prompt:
chkdsk c: /F <==notice the /F, with one space between c: and /F
hit <Enter>
You will get a message that the volume is locked, with a request to do the repair on Reboot.
Answer Y
Then type exit to close the Command window.
Go to Start, Turn Off Computer and choose Reboot
It will scan again when it boots up and make the repairs as the first part of the reboot process.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Check Hard Disk For Errors Again
Press Start->Run, then type or copy/paste the following command into the box and press OK:
Code: Select all
cmd /c chkdsk c: |find /v "percent" >> "%userprofile%\desktop\checkhd.txt"
A blank command window will open on your desktop, then close in a few minutes. This is normal.
A file and icon named checkhd.txt should appear on your Desktop. Please post the contents of this file.

checkhd.txt log

There was no bad sectors and managed to run in read only mode but I will follow your next instructions after I post this as well because the log mentioned some problem that had to be fixed. Also I'm not sure if this is relevant but my computer has 96mb of integrated graphics memory and the driver? is caleld 'Intel extreme graphics 2'.

The type of the file system is NTFS.

I was having some trouble getting the chkdsk to start but rebooting a few times while I was about to post for help got it started. While I'm here anyway, I figured I should mention that whenever I reboot, it asks me what operating system to boot, Windows XP or Windows XP setup. I think it might have something to do with it crashing when I had the installation cd in the drive and was trying to reinstall, is there any way to get rid of the Windows XP setup operating system?

nzlk,
The report of a bitmap defect is not anything of concern.
It is just a bug in the chkdsk reporting system and can be ignored.
The system problems you have should first be addressed by a system hardware forum.
This forum is not best to use for this kind of a problem.

I would choose one from those listed in my previous post, sign up and post about your problem.
At this point I don't think we can help further.
