System restore is already set to started and automatic. I went to the Windows link and followed instructions but it didn't help. The strange thing is that just a few days ago my windows media player application didn't want to open either.

OK, I suggest skipping the system restore section and follow the rest of the instructions then sort system restore later.

The problems with System restore are not coming from malware as all of your latest logs have come back clean.

As this is a dedicated Malware Removal site I think those issues are best left to experts elsewhere..
Here are some excellent Tech sites (in no particular order) that may be able to help with these problems:

Okay Deltalima.
Do you know what's strange though...my Windows media player is not opening either and my Internet browser is only displaying certain website content despite it working a few days ago. I think I might possibly need to install java or active X.

Hi Deltalima,

My virus scan detected a trojan and deleted it today.

5/22/2010 8:27:36 AM Deleted NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{899BDE5B-1249-4C53-BC6E-D697D68F5797}\RP33 \A0045060.exe Generic.dx!ssq (Trojan)

Is it something to be concerned about?

Hi Tetracide,

my Internet browser is only displaying certain website content despite it working a few days ago. I think I might possibly need to install java or active X.

When you visit Windows Update Internet Eplorer will be upgraded from version 7 to version 8 and this should fix any active X problems. I don't see Java installed on the computer and so installing Java will fix any Java problems.

My virus scan detected a trojan and deleted it today.

That virus was detected in the System restore area and will be removed once System restore is working and so is nothing to worry about.

Cool, thanks for all your help Deltalima, you've been very professional in your approach!
And as a result my computer is back to normal, except for a few minor things. All your
great advice has also made me more knowledgeable, thanks again.
