Firefox browser getting redirected during google searches

I am having trouble when using the Firefox browser and google searches. When the google search returns items and I click on the link, I am redirected to completely different sites or advertisements. The performance of the browser and my entire computer seems slow. I have run Trend scan and eAcceleration. While these programs did find some malware, removing these items did not solve the problem.
