need help with browser redirect

Unread postby lee2020 » December 10th, 2009, 2:21 pm

My computer is infected with some redirection virus. I don't know what to do and have downloaded so many spyware and anti-virus programs. Sometimes it finds alureon in some and sometimes it finds nothing. Something is affecting the registry as well. I have been trying to clean this out for weeks now and nothing will fix the problem. When browsing in goggle or any other search site, I am redirected to other websites and occasionally get an antivirus program that wants to be downloaded into my computer so I have to close the browser. Please help ASAP!

Hi

Multiple Anti Virus programs.

You are operating multiple Anti Virus programs on your computer:
  • Norton Internet Security
  • avast! Antivirus

It is NOT safe to have more than one anti-virus installed on a system, and that doing so not only does not provide better protection, it will actually cause additional problems. Anti-virus programs patch into the system kernel. Having more than one anti-virus patching into the system kernel will not only destabilize a system, it can corrupt system files and it WILL cause crashes! You MUST remove all but one anti-virus program.

  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for one of the following (if present):
  • Norton Internet Security
  • avast! Antivirus

Note: if you have a paid subscription for Norton, I would leave that and uninstall Avast. If your subscription to Norton has lapsed and you do not intend renewing it I would uninstall Norton and keep Avast.

Spyware Terminator

This may interfere with the fixes we are about to do so please uninstall it. You may reinstall it if you wish after you are clean, but I would point you in the direction of this article before you decide.

Registry Cleaners

Re. Eusing Free Registry Cleaner

We don't recommend the use of ANY registry cleaners. Here is an excerpt from a discussion on reg cleaners
Most reg cleaners aren't bad as such, but they aren't perfect and even the best have been known to cause problems. The point we are trying to make is that the risk of using one far outweighs any benefit. If it does work perfectly you will not see any difference. If it doesn't work properly you may end up with an expensive doorstop.

I think I have a bad virus because Norton found something and made me restart. Then I saw a blue screen  I tried to restart again in Safe mode but it wouldn't restart so then after 2 attempts, I picked the one that said restart to last working configuration. I am scared that this thing is going to crash again. Please help! I am scanning with Norton now.

Hi

Did you miss this in my opening speech?
melboy wrote:4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.

The advice is given for good reason, unfortunately you've found out the hard way exactly why we give that advice.

There are signs of a rootkit infection that infects critical/system files. Your only option may be to reformat and reinstall the OS, or attempt a repair installation. Do you have your Windows CD?

can't get my computer to start

Can you be more specific.

At what point does the bootup fail? Can you not boot to safe mode? Do you receive any error messages, blue screens etc?

I tried to reboot and got the blue screen. Will not start in safe mode or restore point or anything. It did the first time return to restore point but the printer wouldn't work so I restarted again and then the blue screen. Having someone work on it to get some info off of it. Could not restore it back :(

Hi

When you say you are "Having someone work on it to get some info off of it", what exactly do you mean by this?

Do you still need our help? If so you must follow my advice only, as having more than one person working on your problems will create confusion and could possibly create more problems rather than solve them.

Please let me know in your next post what you would like to do.

Due to lack of activity, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
