Unread postby drew303 » November 20th, 2009, 4:18 pm

Hi during the last week or so my computer has been acting very strange... I Believe its cause is some virus or malware. It usually freezes 5 minutes after i start it up... it also appears that there is a fake antivirus program on my computer. I would give more details but i don't have much time left...

here is my logfile from hijack this:

Hi, First off... thanks for the help! I am currently on a different computer because I can't even log on to the computer that is broken.... When I start I get a screen prompting me to choose Windows Xp media center edition or Windows start up recovery edition... if i choose the first it asks me if i want to run it in safe mode, the last known good configuartion, or normal. i can run it in safe mode but i cant get an internet connection... the other two wont progress past the next screen that shows xp loading. If i choose the recovery edition it asks me which installation to choose it lists these three... d:\I386, d:\MiniNt, or C:\Windows... I don't know if you can help me... if you can it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi

Your first HJT log shows you were able to boot to normal mode. Have you tried anything since then to remedy your malware problems that you think may have led to the machine not being able to boot to normal mode?

Whilst I am attempting to clean the machine nothing should be deleted or added without my specific instruction.

Try following the instructions below (in safe mode for the infected computer).

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) Manual update

Please download mbam-rules.exe to a clean computer and save it to a form of removable media (Flash Drive/Memory Stick, CD/DVD) and then transfer mbam-rules.exe via the removable media to the desktop of the infected computer.

  • Once transferred, double-click mbam-rules.exe and follow the prompts to install.

  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Check all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder... then click on Remove Selected
  • After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

The log can also be found here:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
    2. Or via the Logs tab when the application is started.

Note: MBAM may ask to reboot your computer so it can continue with the removal process, please do so immediately.
Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Hi

Can you still not boot to normal mode? If not, please continue in safe mode. Please attempt the instructions below in safe mode and then try once more to boot to normal mode.

You will have to utilize a form of removable media (Flash Drive/Memory Stick, CD/DVD) to transfer tools and logs between computers for now.

Fix HijackThis entries
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the do a system scan only button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

      R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... ch/ie.html
      R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - - (no file)
      F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe logon.exe
      O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {CCC7A320-B3CA-4199-B1A6-9F516DD69829} - (no file)
      O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [vog2EA.tmp.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vog2EA.tmp.exe
      O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [yxh5.tmp.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\yxh5.tmp.exe
      O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [BlockWatcher] C:\Program Files\BlockWatcher Software\BlockWatcher\BlockWatcher.exe -min
      O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.trymedia.com
      O20 - AppInit_DLLs: puwubako.dll c:\windows\system32\walemafo.dll mufokuvo.dll c:\windows\system32\divimuvo.dll c:\windows\system32\jojuzoma.dll,dumavuja.dll

      O21 - SSODL: sinesehik - {71eb5212-cc8f-4de1-99a1-ee806eaaba8b} - c:\windows\system32\walemafo.dll (file missing)
      O21 - SSODL: setewogeb - {503f3002-6569-4f8f-b8cf-1ae2e8b40976} - c:\windows\system32\divimuvo.dll (file missing)
      O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: gahurihor - {71eb5212-cc8f-4de1-99a1-ee806eaaba8b} - c:\windows\system32\walemafo.dll (file missing)
      O22 - SharedTaskScheduler: mujuzedij - {503f3002-6569-4f8f-b8cf-1ae2e8b40976} - c:\windows\system32\divimuvo.dll (file missing)

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email etc...
  • Click on the Fix Checked button
  • When completed close the application.

REBOOT

random's system information tool (RSIT)

Please download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random to a clean computer and save it to a form of removable media (Flash Drive/Memory Stick, CD/DVD) and then transfer RSIT.exe via the removable media to the desktop of the infected computer.

  • Once transferred, double-click RSIT.exe
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt (<<will be maximized)
    • info.txt (<<will be minimized)
  • Post both of these logs in your next reply (Sometimes you have to make several post to get the logs posted.)

In your next reply:
  1. RSIT log.txt
  2. RSIT info.txt
  3. Can you boot to normal mode after completing the instructions?
