please help

my computer is acting up terribly. Wont even allow me to run any kind of anti virus program, freezes, turns off automatically, shuts down internet explorer and I have no idea what to do.

It is extremely doubtful that the system on this machine can be saved.
The version of Windows on it was issued in the year 2002 and it does not appear to have been updated since.
It is vulnerable to thousands of infections, some of which are likely to have corrupted the system beyond repair.

1-Do you have a Windows XP installation CD, or a Compaq Recovery CD ?
The hard drive will likely need to reformatted and Windows Re-installed.
2-Where did this copy of Windows come from?
3-What is the name of your Internet provider?

You can do all the following from Safe Mode:

Say OK to C: Drive
After it fiddles around a bit calculating compressed files space, a dialogue will come up with checkboxes in it.
Check the following boxes. Make sure any others are Unchecked.

Offline Web Pages
Recycle bin
Setup Log Files
Temporary Files

Click OK and wait for it to finish.

The List of installed programs will automatically be saved as uninstall_list.txt in your HiJackThis folder. In addition, the list opens in Notepad so you can also save as another name in another location if you wish. Please paste the contents into your next reply.
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.

Please post the answers to my (3) initial questions as best you can, and the Installed programs list from HiJackThis, along with any other comments you have.
You can post multiple replies if it's more convenient.

Yes I do have my xp cd's but not my windows cd the eversion of windows was on the computer when I bought it brand new and my isp is road runner.

After doing the thing you advised I am unable to run the internet even in safemode

I would like you to try two things.
On a clean PC, please download the Installer for Forefox from here, and save it to a flash drive or CD:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html

Then go here and save the installer for Malwarebytes to the same flash drive or CD.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

Boot the infected machine into whatever mode you can, plug the flash drive or CD into the infected machine and attempt to install both applications.
If possible, run a scan with malwarebytes anti malware. Updating it first probably won't work in the best of cases.

Install Firefox and see if it can find the Internet.

Tell me if you ever have run System Recovery option at bootup on this machine.

Malware.bytes will not work! I will try firefox

If you can download it and install it, go into the Malwarebytes folder under C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Antimalware\
and rename it from mbam.exe to alee.exe to see if it will run.
That frequently works.
