Strange IE6 behavior/ XP behavior

Unread postby zaxis » March 19th, 2005, 3:26 pm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other day when I opened IE6 on my XP laptop, I noticed all the links on the links toolbar had vanished. I looked in the Favorites/Links folder and it was empty. All my other Favorites were ok. Then i noticed that the word "Links" on the links toolbar and the word "Address" on the Address bar had changed color from black to gray, almost too light to make out! At first I thought it was grayed out, but I think not now. Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this or a possible fix? System Restore didn't cure the problem, and I tried every restore point I had. An AVG scan showed no infection. I have Spyware Guard and and Spyware Blaster, and also Ad-aware and Spybot S&D. Here is my Hijack This log:

well you do not have any infections.

A few orphaned entries.

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {AC716F07-89CE-4A95-8DD0-37C429C263DA} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {74654569-770F-44c2-BB4C-9323BB8BEC9F} - (no file)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

that should clear them up.

Post back if they do not clean from the next HJT log.

I think you have a settings problem of one sort or another.

Ok the orphans are gone. I've found out that the address bar and the links toolbar in Windows Explorer show the same problem - "Links" and "Address" are gray, not black. However if I run in safe mode, they are black, the correct color. Any ideas ?

Not myself. I specialise in malware removal.

I would suggest you try at the Dell forum as you have a Dell computer. The windows board

http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/

The experts at that forum should be able to help you.

When you post tell them that ChrisRLG has checked your log for malware - and it is clean.

Give them my best wishes too. Its been a long time since I posted on that board myself.
