Virus Frenzy

Unread postby withoutaclue » August 1st, 2009, 9:47 am

I've been trying to clean my computer for about a week now, but I keep getting one virus after another. It started in the beginning of the week when I got a virus that looked like Sasser. I was getting the typical "memory" error message and also the 60 second countdown due to an error with services.exe. I turned automatic updates and the windows firewall back on, and once I installed the needed updates, it killed a virus, but it wasn't Sasser. Instead, it was a backdoor Trojan (I think Blaster). But during the time I was infected, I think more damage was done. Now I'm getting an application error message when I start up my computer (sometimes), and McAfee (full version provided by my university) is giving me a buffer overflow warning from C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe:WS2_32.socket.

I've tried the standard removal software, including McAfee, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and CCleaner. I've also tried some specialized software, including Symantec's sasser removal tool and McAfee's Stinger. I also turned off system restore and did all the scans in safe mode. I'm still having problems, though. Any suggestions?

Here's the Hijackthis log:

The virus I got rid of by turning on updates was: backdoor WinNT/Rustock.AN

Yesterday I did another Superantispyware scan and got rid of the following:

We're sorry, but it is necessary to close your topic because you have replied to it prior to receiving a response from a helper.

Due to adding on to your topic with your second post it is highly unlikely that you would have received a response. Our helpers are looking for topics with zero responses. When you post replies to your own topic, it no longer has zero responses, and so it appears that you have received help when in fact, you have not.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Malware Removal forum and wait for assistance. Please do not run additional programs and/or post additional logs. Just your HijackThis log to start with is adequate. Your helper will ask for additional logs as needed. DO NOT reply to your own topic until you have received a response from a helper. Be patient. There are others who have been waiting longer than you, so do not expect an immediate reply.

Thank you for your cooperation.
