USB ports have shutdown!

I'm working in the bush (2 weeks from anywhere) so have limited technical support. The work i'm doing requires that I be able to connect components to the USB ports, don't have much other choice.

I've tried multiple restarts, according to the device manager diagnostic the ports are working fine. However even with nothing plugged in, i get continual pop up bubbles reporting that the devices aren't working. I have tried these on different computers and know that they are all working fine. HELP!

I don't know if this is a malware problem but i thought that i would give it a shot.
Everything else seems to be running just fine.
