Please help with virus and malware

I believe I am infected with some win32 virus' or something. I had symantec norton security 2008 and the liveupdate keep messing up. I tried to uninstall and reinstall it and scan all to no avail. Tried running my spyware scanners all to no avail. Uninstalled symantecs program but in my add remove programs list it still has symantec liveupdate at 300mb and I can not remove it. My computer is wayyy slow now and I think I am seriously infected. Please any help is appreciated.
