Windows Vista won't run update...

Unread postby racefan_48 » April 25th, 2009, 8:53 pm

My computer won't run the update module. I click on it and it goes to a white box and never loads. I made the attempt to run it from the website and the website never loads. I did a repair with my vista disk but to no avail. I can't figure it out. I was reading another forum and a microsoft tech said it was possible that he was infected with some sort of bot. I tried this technique:

Start cmd.exe as administrator (right-click and select run as administrator)
> at the command prompt type
> net stop wuauclt
> net stop bits

When I went to stop "wuauclt", it said it could not be found. As for "net stop bits" I get: The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service could not be stopped.

And here is my HiJackThis report:

As this does not appear to be a malware issue, your best option is to work with Microsoft to resolve your Windows Update problems. You may start a free Windows Update support incident request at the following link:

https://support.microsoft.com/oas/de...spx?gprid=6527

Also, self-help is available at the Microsoft Update Solution Center:

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in the United States and in Canada. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates.

As this issue does not involve malware and therefore falls outside the scope of this forum, this topic is now closed.
