malwarebytes identified two infections but cmptr still hangs

running Windows XP Pro SP3.
currently only can run in safe mode.
problem started with rundll32.exe app error on startup. associated process was csrss.exe. computer hangs on error.
Ran malwarebytes which found two infections...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusDisableNotify (Disabled.SecurityCenter) -> Bad: (1) Good: (0) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

Now computer doesn't show rundll32.exe error window but still hangs making normal startup mode unusable.
