Hi Bluetrain7
IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more
P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.
Azureus
DC++
eMule
I'd like you to read the
MRU policy for P2P Programs.
Please go to
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).NOW
Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
1. Start
HijackThis
2. Click on the
Config button
3. Click on the
Misc Tools button
4. Click on the
Open Uninstall Manager button.
You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:
5. Click on the
Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press
Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply
copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply
Thanks peku006
Hi Bluetrain7
1 - Update Java Runtime:
You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is:
Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 13.
- Go to HERE
- Click on the link named Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 13
- Click on the radio button to Accept License Agreement
- Click on Windows Offline Installation Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk
- Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
- Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment JRE or JSE)
- Reboot your computer
- Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
- Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Reboot your computer
2 - Clean temp files
Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.
Under Main choose: Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache
*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.
if you use Firefox: Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.
if you use Opera: Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program

Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
- Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
- It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
- When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.

Thanks for sticking with me.
Also, I successfully reformatted and reinstalled Windows on my desktop PC. While it was infected I had connected my ipod to it. Before I connect the ipod to the newly cleaned computer I have a question.
Could the virus have spread to the ipod? I know that mac systems don't get viruses as easily but I have heard that they can act as a host.
Hi Bluetrain7
Could the virus have spread to the ipod?
no it is not possible
Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mac80ex.idf
Please empty both your Norton AntiVirus Quarantine and PestPatrol Quarantine
Your HijackThis log, is messed up. This is caused by having Word Wrap checked.
So before posting a new Hijackthis Log:
1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad
2. On the menu bar in Notepad select Format and click on WordWrap so it appears un-checked.
Please post a new HijackThis log.
Thanks peku006
I deleted the mac80ex.idf file. I also emptied the PestPatrol quarantine and uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus because I don't use it anymore (the quarantine folder for Norton has been deleted also).
Sorry about the last HijackThis log. Here is a new one:

Hi Bluetrain7
it seems
you don't have any evidence of a third party
firewall.
As the term conveys, a
firewall is an extra layer of security installed onto computers, which restricts access to systems from the outside world.
Firewalls protect against hackers and malicious intruders. I want you to download a free firewall
NOW from one of these excellent vendors:
1) Comodo (Uncheck during installation "Install COMODO Antivirus (Recommended)"!, "Install Comodo SafeSurf..", Make Comodo my default search provider" and "Make Comodo Search my homepage")
2) Online Armor
3) PC Tools
4) Sunbelt/Kerio
5) ZoneAlarm (uncheck ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker during installation if you choose this one)
If you are using the built-in Windows XP firewall, it is not recommended as it does not block outgoing connections. This means that any malware on your computer is free to "phone home" for more instructions. Simply put, Windows XP contains a mediocre firewall. This firewall is NO replacement for a dedicated software solution. Remember to use only one firewall at the same time.

Did you get an upgrade in status on the site? If so then congratulations.
Thank you for your continuing help on this issue. You're a good person peku006.
Hi Bluetrain7
thanks for congratulating.....
the scans are fine and it looks like your machine is clean
To remove all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created do the following:
- Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe.
- Click the CleanUp! button.
- Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
- If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
- The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.
Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP
This is a good time :
Turn off System Restore
- On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
- Click Properties.
- Click the System Restore tab.
- Check Turn off System Restore.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
- Reboot.
Turn ON System Restore
- On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
- Click Properties.
- Click the System Restore tab.
- UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.
Spybot Search and Destroy
Download it from
here. Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here
Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from
here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here
Install WinPatrol
Download it from
here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works
here
Install FireTrust SiteHound
You can find information and download it from
here
Install MVPS Hosts File from here
The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
Find Tutorial here :
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.
Secunia Software Inspector
F-secure Health Check
Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"
