Infected- dont' know what to do! S.O.S

6 min read

This thread's last reply is from March 6, 2009, 5:33 AM UTC. Software, malware, and removal-tool advice below may be out of date — treat specific steps and download links with caution.

Hello, this is my first time here so please bare with me.

I tried downloading an application today (Proxyshell Hide IP 2.4.6.0- with crack) from a blog. Needless to say, I thought this was a virus free application but i was wrong. Now I've noticed my searches look ok but when i click on the link, it gets re-directed to something completely different. In other words, it isn't the actual link I clicked on. I get spam instead.
As soon as i figured something was wrong, I immediately scanned my computer for viruses on my CA security center. Not much there so i went to my Malwarebytes' program but it won't open up. I tried to re-download it to my computer from the site but I keep getting "server not found". I tried another computer to make sure the link it good, and sure enough, it is a good link but my infected computer won't bring up the site.

I found you guys through a search and have read Malware Removal Guide but I can't get ANY of the software to download. I keep getting "server not found" to all the links. AVG, Spybot...all of them. The virus/ malware won't let me download the programs. I have followed everything and since I can't get anything to download, i am now forced to come here.

I am stuck so I hope someone here can help. Thank you guys in advance!

EDIT:
I also forgot to say that I also tried to scan my computer through Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner but all I got was "update failure". It keeps telling me to close window and start over. I tried to scanning my computer 4 times till I just gave up.

It seems anything that has to do with scanning or removal will NOT download or will fail to scan.

EDIT #2:

Mods, please close or delete this thread. I fixed the problem.

I used combofix ( according to instructions). After that, all returned to normal.

I self diagnosed based on symptoms others had. Problem solved! Thanks...
Although your computer problems may appear to be resolved, unless you have the expertise to analyze your own logs, it's possible that malware may still be lurking on your system, although your computer may be asymptomatic at this time. If you should have any indication that the malware has left remnants behind or has reactivated itself, do return, open a new topic, and post a fresh HijackThis log.

As this issue appears to be resolved, this topic is now closed.
