Changed desktop, Antivirus XP warnings- help

Unread postby ashley89 » February 10th, 2009, 7:49 pm

Even when I am on a normal website like my university's home page, my computer has been giving me random pop ups for "dating" websites, sunglasses, Yahoo jobs, Chinese video sites, "McCain 2012" t-shirts-- all sorts of strange things. I also sometimes get blank pop up windows, with just a string of numbers in the url box.

Today when I turned on my computer, my desktop wallpaper had been changed to a flashing warning about viruses, and at the top of every website I go to is a warning in red that says, "Warning! Your system is in danger. YOUR COMPUTER IS IN need OF full scanning!". Also, in the corner near the clock is a red X that keeps popping up a box saying, "Warning! Security report. Your computer is infected! It is recommended to start spyware cleaner tool", and when I right click to exit it it pops up a web page for "Antivirus XP".

Also, I can not open Task Manager. I get a warning saying "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator". But I'm the only person on this computer, and I've never disabled anything like that.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
