Browser Jacked with pipas.A? DNS redirection.

Hello,

Somehow I have this pain on my laptop. It redirects browser pages and makes it impossible to update various software, in addition to constantly attempting to access spam sites or redirect me to them. Something is running that actively changes my HOSTS file. If I alter my hosts file, within a minute it is renamed to hosts.bak.

Of note in the logfile are the 017 entries that have my DNS pointing (presumably) to a spammer DNS server.

Any help here would be appreciated. I'm reluctant to use the internet for anything of importance until I can resolve this.

Installed Programs

Please could you give me a list of the programs that are installed.

• Start HijackThis
• Click on the Misc Tools button
• Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will see a list with the programs installed in your computer.
Click on save list button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into your next post.

You have several AV's running,Webroot AntiVirus,avast,COMODO Internet Security << Is this the full antivirus program and firewall
you're actually doing more harm than good by running more than one Anti Virus program.
When you do this the programs compete for resources, and the end result is none does it's best and can cause system instability.
I recommend that you choose one that you want to keep.
The other/s I would either uninstall, or disable from startup and use as "on demand" for an occasional scan.

Please note that almost all "free" security software is only free for home/private users

Avast : Avast isn't running/ it is just installed (I can't active it since there are browser issues connecting to the site); the service is listed but it is Stopped.
Webroot: I have disabled Webroot but would prefer not to uninstall it yet.
Only Comodo is running, and it is the AV with Firewall. Do you still require a full list?

I've mailed the developer of the tool just for some input on the errors you are getting.
Once I hear back we can go forward.

Looks as though, in spite being *disabled* some of the Firewall/AV software was still running as a 'Service'...

I removed them and I'm trying it again.
