cannot download anything on the net using IE and Firefox

hi everyone,

could you please help us on our problem, our pc cannot download anything from the net using any browser. every time we download something from the net, it prompts me where to save it and other usual download dialog boxes, when we press 'save' or 'download', it downloads normally like it has no problem, but when the download finishes, the file that was downloaded does not appear any where, i even searched in the hidden files for the newly downloaded file but it does not appear anywhere. i tried to create a folder where all my downloads would be put, but it still does not appear. :( please help us.. here is the hijackthis log:

LIST OF PROGRAMS USING HIJACKTHIS
  • Open HijackThis.
  • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  • Click on the Save list... button.
  • It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  • Notepad will open. Please copy and paste the contents of this log in your next reply.

Hello x4eqgwv3,

Remove one of your Anti Virus programs.
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:

Avira AntiVir Personal
AVG7

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

Please remove AVG7 as it's not getting updates anymore as AVG8 is out.

You many need to reboot your pc to complete the uninstallation.

Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel, click on Add remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on remove. Then close the Control Panel.

Note: Be carefull do not uninstall this Java version as it's the latest one:
Java(TM) 6 Update 11

Remove only these:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

Note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red) NOW.

Post back a new HijackThis, so we can continue cleaning your pc.

i'm just curious, is it really necessary to remove winamp? because we use it as a music player, does it have any virus?

No i just told you to remove it, to tidy up. This is the way it shows in your programs list:
Winamp (remove only)

It's a sign that the program is not actually working, you can leave it if you didn't attempt to remove it.

Disable SUPERAntiSpyware until the computer is clean
  • Right-click on the shortcut from the system tray
  • Choose View Control Center (preferences/options)
  • On the General and Startup tab, uncheck Start SUPERAntispyware when Windows starts.
  • Click Close to exit.
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

Delete bad services
Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it FixServices.bat
Please save it on your desktop.

@echo off
sc stop Avg7Alrt
sc stop Avg7UpdSvc
sc stop AVGEMS
sc delete Avg7Alrt
sc delete Avg7UpdSvc
sc delete AVGEMS
exit


Double click FixServices.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.

FIX HIJACKTHIS ENTRIES

Open up Hijackthis.
Click on do a system scan only.
Place a checkmark next to these lines(if still present).

Then close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked
Close HijackThis.

Set Your Computer to Show All Files
  • Click Start.
  • Click My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (recommended).
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK.
In addition, go to Start, Search.  When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom.
Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

Using Windows Explore by right-clicking the Start button and left clicking Explore navigate to and find the following Folder: if found, delete the following (some may not be present after previous steps):

C:\PROGRAM FILES\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1 << I don't have the full name, but it's the AVG7 Anti-Virus folder.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Checked (tick) all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Post that log back here.
